Hey guys, I'm trying to date / establish what model of Ibanez this is. I'm aware of the basics (S series, etc.) but I can't seem to find an exact match with its specs and the serial number is not helping me. Any clues? The owner stated that he purchased it around 1990, second hand. That's all the info I have, unfortunately.

My best guess it's a neck swapped 540SLTD

    Reasoning:
-It came in desert sun yellow in the 88, 89 and 90 model years and had IBZ/USA pups
-Neck had sharktooths and this doesn't
-This thing is modded to hell and back so it doesn't seem too far fetched that it had a neck swap

If I had to take a guess it would be a 540S made some time in between 1988 and early 1990.

Btw, if you don't find yourself using the backstops, they sell for a pretty penny. ;)

Wow, how much better this looks than the other sabers with ugly plastic crap on the 5-way.

The mini toggles were standard in 1987 and part of 1988, and that serial number is an '88 serial number. The beehive knobs were used from '88 through '90 or '91. '87s had H-H, H-S-S or S-S-S pickup sets; and the H-S-H came about in '89 if memory serves.

My best guess here is that it's an '88 540S made late enough in the year that it received the '89 H-S-S pickup routing/set.
