Haha, I wish we could do something about that. Our guitars are the same regardless of the country it goes to but the problem is with import and export fees, dealer fees and charges, shipping, insurance, taxes, etc. If it were up to us and only us we would get you our factory direct pricing but with governments on both sides as well as trade laws, taxes, fees, as well as dealer fees it makes it hard to do so. Maybe you should come visit us and buy one here instead. This way your custom guitar comes with a really fun vacation ;)

Hahaha yeah that would be cool. It sucks that if I want to order a Carvin I have to pay almost 3000 euros to get a fully custom one...

Yeah, I'll have to go to USA soon, to get gear and to see how it is. Cheers!:lol::lol:

I like that you guys do your due diligence when planning new models. I would MUCH rather you not make a SCB8 because of balance concerns than make one and have us find out it doesn't work well. :yesway:

Welcome brother! As an owner of 3 DC800s I would love to see more 8 string love. I can tell by how many NGDs and pics posted by you guys on the Carvin FB pages that the DC800 and all the 7 string models that your ERG line is pretty successful.

Im selling one of my 3 in hopes that a new 8 string model is on the horizon....dont let me down ;)

Great to see that manufacturers listen to the players!

Being the instigator of the latest round of Carvin fanned fret 8 rumours, I feel like it's my duty to ask you a related question

What would you say is the biggest obstacle to designing a fanned fret guitar? Hardware? Getting it in at at a reasonable enough price? Mass market interest? Some other factor?

Heh, well for now you guys have that JR Sig to look forward to. He's supposed to be coming down to work on it with Jeff some more today actually.

I can't speak for other companies but I think for us it is time that's more the issue than anything. Mass market interest does help influence the decision on whether to do it or not but because we're not necessarily the majority guitar market out there we have a little more freedom than other companies that have been around as long as we have. That being said however, the multiscale guitar enthusiast is indeed sort of a small group in the larger population of guitar players. While some may argue that is only the case because the option is not widely available, currently we have more people asking for other things than the fanned fret design.

Personally I'm all for multiscale, it's a great design choice for equal tension distribution and clarity. But we're not ones to rush a design and would want to take the time to R&D it. IF we were considering a fanned fret design (and notice my emphasis on IF) there are a lot of factors we'd have to look into. One would of course be hardware choice and sourcing, designing pickups that would optimize the tonal clarity of a multiscale design, designing the guitar so that it doesn't look bad (at least in our eyes, that's all subjective of course), programming our CNC machines to get a precision cut on everything when we put it into production, etc. all the while trying to get it to our customers at a price we can all be happy with without skimping on quality at all. This of course takes a lot of time and we have a lot of other priorities and projects to take care of before we can tackle a thing like that.

So hope that helps, I know it's been on my wishlist for a while but I don't think it is something we'll be offering.

    But never say never.... ;)

    This isn't good.

I'm now going to overanalyze everything Chris says in the hopes of finding more information about new models or potential things that Carvin doesn't normally do that they would be willing to do on a one-off.:squint:

As a proud owner of a DC400 and briefly a DC747 I had to sell and regret doing so I will echo the sentiment of bringing direct sales back to the EU. It just annoys me to know I have to pay almost double price for something I could have had a few years ago with just a 25% VAT addition.

I'm still gonna hold my breath for a longer multi-scale, It's ok if I turn purple, it looks great with gold. :D

Hey Chris, what is the fastest you guys can build a guitar? When I come down I'm thinking of bringing a suicide vest and a bunch of guns, and hold the whole place up so Jeff will allow you guys to build me a one off FF8 DC800. Kind of like the beginning of the Ironman movie. But I need to know how much time to take off work. A week, you think?

This probably isn't your first (or last) time being asked this, but is there any possibility of a more "conventional" (read: generic) superstrat shape? That's basically been the one thing holding me back from ordering a Carvin, that I'm way too picky and not that into the current shape(s)

Yes, I realize that probably landed me on the Do Not Fly list.
In reality, if I tell my wife I have plans of swinging by there again (we went last year and I bought a DC800) I won't need a suicide vest - she'll kill me herself!

But I really do want to see these new models in person, if there are any in the showroom. And I'm hoping Jeff spills the beans on the other new 7 string before I go in case I want to spec one out with the boys down there.

Hi Chris, welcome! I am a new Carvin owner (got my DC727 in January) and planning on another in the next year, hopefully. Glad to have you here. (my name if Chris, too!)
