    hey everyone.

so last weekend I was in the studio and it was my first time tracking with Bareknuckles (the Blackhawks specifically) and they absolutely blew away anything else Ive ever tried.

So Im going to be getting Bareknuckles in everything now. Im converted. And they will always be wired up to a coil tap.

now I have 2 headless guitar projects.

one is a 25.5 scale, mahogany body, maple neck, ebony fretboard, the other is a 26-25 inch fan fret with alder body and maple/rosewood neck. (both bolt on 6 strings) both tuned to Drop G#

first of all what would the Blackhawks go best in?
and second what other bareknuckle option would be cool in the other one?
    (also Ceramic vs Alnico?)

Im a modern metal player ala Architects, HOAC, Monuments etc

Thinking Impulse, Ragnarok, Juggernauts or Aftermath. Depends on what works well with the materials etc.

I'd go Blackhawk or impulse or maybe to try out Ragnarok

Put the impulses in the mahogany one. They play very nicely with a guitar with natural low mids & ebony fretboards. Blackhawks slay in alder.

If you want more versatility I'd stay away from the Aftermath.

    Ragnaroks and Juggernauts are different.
The rags have more output and are a bit brighter then the juggs.
Probably better in a mahogany guitar.

The Juggs are more low-mid focused and lower output.
Probably better for the alder one.

lmao guess your EMG fetish didn't last, welcome back to the passive pup game

I tested the alnico blackhawk and the impulses in my prs mushok (all mahogany body/neck/ebony fretboard). both kick ass, but I preferred the impulse set's voicing.
Aftermath is a one trick pony with horribly clanky/metallic mids, which would give you a good djenty tone and nothing else. stay away.
Juggernauts get too tubby on the low end in mahogany, and the cocked wah voicing doesn't work for everyone.

I'd go impulse in the mahogany, alnico blackhawk in alder (or maybe holy diver).
I've got demos of those 3 in my shootout thread.

I've also heard good things about the Black Dog for ERG and lower tunings.
Never tried personally but in bkp modern metal clips sounds amazing.

It's more an explanation to my current pickup GAS then a suggestion lol:

the black dog is great for metal, and can definitely do the kind of stuff lewis wants, but I think the more modern voiced sets are better suited for the kind of sound he's chasing.

Blackhawks in the mahogany one. Perfect for 25.5 in G# from my experience!

In that bkp vid the alnico Blackhawk sounded most like you’re after. Also keep in mind John Browne uses c nailbombs

I just watched his guitar gear rundown, and he's using the c-bomb/cold sweat in his sigs, cold sweat bridge in his 8 strings, but he has the p-rail p90s in his duvell elite.

Yep his 6 has p-rails/p90, just checked the master of puppets cover he did.
I thought he only used those PUs for his solo album.
On Mayones website the duvell elite comes stock with Nazgul/Sentient.

If you're tuning down to G# I'd say go for the Impulse set over the Blackhawks, they're a little less aggressive sounding but have insane clarity. I've owned/own both sets plus plenty of other BKP sets so if you've got any specific questions ask away.

    Impulse set in both guitars?
Or is it worth still getting 1 set of each? (atm both guitars are unfinished projects and have no pickups/electronics so will need pickups in both regardless)

It's a matter of if you want different voicings or not in your guitars.

for the purpose of studio recording, it makes sense I guess to have different flavours.

Im going to get Impulses first I think (seeing as I know and love the Blackhawks and 100% want a set) to try out.
