well, good to see that all my efforts are going into something usefull like half life 2... I got the game a while ago, and stopped playing it for about 2 months, but hit it with a vengeance yesterday and today and finally finished it. Very cool game I do have to say :)

Anyone else enjoy half life? (apart from the steam thing which is rubbish)

I'm about 2/3rds through it, but stopped playing it because of the load times. The game looks and plays great, but 4 minute load times every 20 minutes of play or so is rediculous.

I understand it's a completely different type of game & platform, but Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox is a very detailed, articulate game with large maps, and it still has only 1 or 2 long load times in 16 levels of play. Most load times are under 20 seconds, and only once per level.

I haven't played the new version yet, but I've played the original through to the end 3 times. I mostly play UT 2004 now. We have a lan game every day at 5:00 -- great to blow off stress.

HL2 was pretty damn good, albeit really linear. I got about 3/4 of the way through, and had the biggest bitch of a time with loading when you drive the buggy through the tunnels - I kept ending up turned around the wrong way and zoning back through.

The AI in it is just disappointing compared to games like Thief, and the worlds are mad linear, as opposed to say Far Cry, which for a shooter, is the best FPS I've ever played.

As a side note, if enough people have SteamIngPileofPoo installed, we should totally hook up a few CS:Source games. :metal:

HL2 is awesome. Linear, yes, but still fun. I'm kinda suprised you guys had trouble with the load times, my PC is far from cutting-edge but I never felt the waits were overlong (except on the car levels when they seemed to occur with greater frequency). The uber-weapon you get at the end was fun as hell :)

If you've beaten it, try going back with some cheat codes. Turn up the number of shotgun pellets to 100 and triple the amount of damage they do and presto, instant death cone

I didn't really have "problems" with them, I just felt that they're unnecessary in a modern game, especially with the budget Valve has.

:hbang: Cs:s is very awesome, even though I'm pretty bad at it lol

An ss.org game of Counter Strike would be pretty kickass

Actually, the buggy through the tunnel bit was quite long for loading, but still fun (if at first REALLY infuriating).

And the game is pretty linear, but still, so was the original half life and so I don't really mind. Overall It's still an amazing game, and worth playing to the end

And it's making me want to replay half life now...

I'd be up for a bit of SS.Org CS :)

If FPS's are your thing, I just finished F.E.A.R not too long ago - great game, same HL feel to it, pretty spooky in spots too.

Although in recent days I've been playing a lot of Halo PC instead. Yes, the Halo PC port sucks, but I can't stand game controllers. Does anyone else play Halo PC here?

We should start the 7-string clan :p

Yeah, HL2 is superb. A great variety of environments. I can't wait for the soon-to-be-released expansion.
