I never been that fast on guitar and recently I started to learn some between buried and me songs, I already catched up with their speed and I feel kinda comfortable now, but sometimes I started to get some pain on the arm and I stop, I tried to do some warm ups before play guitar but not working or maybe I'm doing it wrong. If I have to warm up at all, I clasp and open my hands for about 30 seconds each. I usually don't have to warm up though, and I have been playing every day (almost) for close to 12 years.

My first piece of advice is... make sure you're using good technique.

Everyone I know who has had CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) was playing with bent wrists. That forces the tendons to turn a corner, and inflames the carpal tunnel.

I suggest videotaping yourself playing normally for a time, and observing your technique. Being sure to state on the recording when you feel the pain, you'll probably notice what you're doing to cause it.

I suggest leaving the recorder running for a while, so that you move away from consciously playing well and start using your normal technique.

I look forward to hearing what happened. Good luck!

^Very common among self-taught guitarists, unfortunately.

    Take breaks!

there's no need to play a physically demanding lick of exercise for 30 minutes straight

and there's no need to play for 3 hours at a time

    ^^^ Yes!

I found standing up and raising my guitar to what i would call high-ish helped me with some of my wrist problems.

Interestingly enough, I have such long arms that I had to adjust my guitar to a pretty low position to be able to comfortably play.

I think I found the reason why it hurts when I star play riffs that requires more effort. I think my wrist position is wrong. Any tips how to get a better wrist position ?
