Hi, I am thinking very seriously in getting my first seven string.
I am wondering if this is what should I do:
Buy a Ibanez RGD7421 (with no trem) and if I liked it I would upgrade to a 2120z.
Do you think that the 7421 is a good start?
    Thanks for the attention

I would personally advise you to get something with a standard scale to start with so the transition from 6 to 7 is less awkward, maybe look at used Japanese RGs from the late 90s, like the RG7421 or 7621. You can find those used for the same (or less) money than a new RGD.

If you're only ever playing a full step down or lower, though, the RGD would probably serve you well because of the longer scale.

Is the scale change something that I should think about more seriously?
    Thanks for answering.

Think about the scale more seriously when you feel the need for that low B to be an A and beyond. 25.5" scale should be fine for anything up to A standard, any lower and you may want an inch or 2 more.

It's a preferance thing though, some guys like their strings a little loose.

Good idea, as I say I recommend the late 90s/early 00s Jap RGs.

Check out the RG7420 and RG7620, or if you want a fixed bridge (because they are always better :fawk:) look for the RG7421 and RG7621.

Almost everyone on here will tell you what great guitars they are, and they're probably cheaper to pick up used than a new RGD.

I have a more recent Indonesian-made RG7321, which is great as well but may need a pickup change (currently waiting on an X2N 7 for mine).

I think you could prob get a RG7620 for maybe that price, which is much better. Or you can get the RG7420 for cheaper. These ibanez guys would be able to help you better. Look on here in the marketplace their pretty common.

Hey man, may I ask why Ibanez?

Depending on how long you have been playing is a big factor in regards to what would be best for you. If you have been playing for years on a good quality guitar, then recommending an entry level model may be a drastic change from your current 6; therefore may have a negative impact for your 7 string cherry...

As you mentioned you are a kid, my advise to you is not to limit yourself to a certain model / brand. Have a look on classifieds such as craigslist and ebay etc. and buy the most cost affective guitar you can find.

If you cant get on with the lower string then try a high A or something :yesway:

Well I am not shure why Ibanez but I heard that I could get very nice deals for like 600 dollars.
    I been playing for 4 and a half years (I'm 12).
Last year I got a mexican Fender Strat.
Would you think that if I change from a strat to a RG7421 the transition from a six string to a seven would be even harder?
Do you think that I should save up some more money and get Shecter Jeff Loomis (example)?
    Thanks

Well I personally do not like ibanez, but you might love them....

Go to a guitar centre or something and try stuff out. Only you know what you like.

Why not try the RGD anyway? Best case scenario - You fall in love with the extra inch.

Worst case scenario, you pick a new one.
