Has anyone tried this combo? I've been searching the net for info on this combination and didn't find anything. I have V30/Gov/Legend on hand and might do some experimenting.

Mixing a 120w speaker with a 60w would probably sound really weird, id imagine the V30 would overpower in terms or loudness as well as mid-range/treble.

I'm betting it would sound great.

Have you tried the eminence legends? I have and they don't have any attributes id associate with V30's. Perhaps the bigger low mids would fit in nicely with the upper mid spike of the V30's and bring in a deeper tighter low end.

Yeah I've flipped them back and forth with the v30 in a 112 krank cab.
They sound darker and more lower-middy as opposed to the v30's upper-mids.
Never got to try them together, but they seem a workable contrast.
I actually ended up running my amp's EQ knobs about the same with either speaker oddly enough, but they did sound very different as well.

    Never a V30, but i had a Legend V1216 with a H-100 (the newer K-100).

They are very different. The Legend is infinitely smoother and 'centered' - less extreme lows and highs.
The K100 in comparison sounded just the opposite, and they complemented each other well - but you had to stand straight in front of the cab and work with the combo, so micing a single speaker would require a different sound.

Wattage rating won't make a difference in which speaker will sound dominant in a cab.

    db/spl sensitivity will.

    Vintage 30 = 100 db
    Emi. V12 = 100.9 db

They will pair up and compliment each other nicely, both in spl and eq/tonal character.

Lower wattage speakers have faster breakup times. Yeah that should work then, I'm pretty sure the Governor is the closest V30 equivalent that eminence makes, I wonder how that would sound compared to the V30 in the same cab.

Not correct either. Breakup characteristics vary greatly - V30 start breaking up at around 50%, Legends at around 80%.

I ran a similar setup in a v pattern on an older orange 4x12. Really sounded like a match made in heaven at higher volumes with the low end the v30 and incredible dynamics with the legend.

I'm currently running a 2x12 v30 setup and a 1x15 legend and found that to be an ideal combo with my peavey.

I made a 4x12 with legends and governors in an x pattern, it's awesome.

Sounds interesting. I have a Sovtek cab which has legends copies and was wanting to get some Veteran 30's to compliment their sound.

I mean to do some testing but can't seem to find my SM 57 for the life of me. These will be the comparisons (using a Rectoverb with a TS/Maxon on high gain in drop B + F#). I'll see if I can get consistent samples of all/most of the following:

    Recto 2x12 ("control group")
Emperor 2x12 Governor (not completely broken in)
    Emperor 2x12 Legend
    Emperor 2x12 Legend/Gov
    Emperor 2x12 Legend/V30
    Emperor 2x12 V30/G12K
    Emperor 2x12 G12K/Legend

I'll post the results into this thread. Any suggestions on mic placement (using a single mic) for getting the tone of the blended combo?

I actually ran my 412 with 2 V12s and 2 V30s in it for a couple of months. Recently replaced the V30s with 2 more V12s lol. But yeah...sounded pretty good. The V30s add some grind, with the legends filling in the low end and giving the cab punch and a nice cutting and balanced tone. I dug the combination, but I hate V30s on their own...lots of shows, the sound guy would mic a V30, and I hated it...so I just got rid of them completely lol.
