Does peavey 50/50 rack poweramp lowend compare to 6505 poweramp section?

im going SO crazy trying to find out if the peavey rackmount 50/50 poweramp has the amount of hefty punchy thumping lowend as a 6505 head powersection.
sometimes i play different rack preamps or preamp pedals into my 6505s fx return and it makes them sound so damn good! thick aggressive punchy lowend. no need for an eq pedal anywhere.
i have my sights set on the 50/50 because of its resonance control (and price). james brown even told me that the 50/50 poweramp and 5150/6505 poweramp section share the same circuit as do a lot of peavey amps from that time. but the 50/50 uses el34s while the 6505 uses 6l6s.
i need to hear it from someone who has had experience with both.
    does the 50/50 lowend thump/punch like a 6505 does?
    thanks

Classsic 50/50 is EL84 based, and will sound more like a EL34/Marshall than a 6L6/5150. You want the Classic 60/60 which will get you closer. A Mesa or VHT would be even better. Also EL84s die faster, so expesive to retube (8xEL84s).

    Yeah..... agree. :D

It has been 15 years or so since I have heard a 50/50, so keep that in mind..... but I never remember it sounding a big as a 5150. It does have a resonance control that helps, but is limited by the EL84s.

Tiny tubes equal tiny tone. I have yet to find anything to convince me otherwise.

Honestly, if you want to stick with Peavey, I have always considered getting a 60/60, and modifying it with a resonance control. Adding a resonance control to a 4-tube poweramp is generally pretty easy to do.

You can regularly score good deals on eBay. I got my 60/60 for $150 & $45 shipping(they aren't light). I liked the controls on the front and the presence and resonance knobs of the 50/50, but prefer 6L6's to EL84's so that's why I got it. Had it about 3 1/2 years now and love it. Pairs perfectly with the Rockmaster preamp(which I'm guessing it was meant to). Not sure if this is a concern of yours, but for that much power in a tube amp, it really doesn't sound half bad at all at volumes I can play at in my apartment in the middle of the night, certainly more than acceptable.

    thing is, i live in canada so $150us = $197can + $45us = $59can.
so slap extra border fees (or whatever its called (had to pay a surprize $50 when i got my tightmetalpro)) so say +60 (because its massive) and were looking at an end price more akin to $316. !!!
and i think youre getting lucky, ive stumbled upon some current and older posts and at least to me they always seem to be over $200us, so now were talking closer to $400 and over when all is said and done. take for instance i bought a crate TDP rack preamp for $180us, in the end it cost me $345can !!!
us canadians gets ****ed when it comes to shipping etc. but hopefully ill come across someone selling here.

There's 3 right there that have sold for under $200 recently.

Link isn't working if you click on it but if you copy and paste it works fine.
