    If you do?
    • Why?
    • Any particular naming convention or trend?
    • Meanings behind the name
    If you don't?
    • Why?
It's a special part of my guitar buying experience. And, I usually name my guitars even before I have them. I find it makes all of the guitars more special to me. It also makes them harder to let go of as well. No particular rhyme or reason for the names. Just names I like.

I'm not sure what it comes from really. But I think it has something to do my dad's guitar, which is a white Epiphone. I don't know the model, but it looks like an ES-350? Anyway, dad is big B.B. King fan and of course, Lucille. In relation to this, I give all of my guitars human names (rather than designations/titles/etc.)

Anyway, my current guitars are named:
    • Naomi (Black ESP VP-SL7)
    • Edith (Archtop ESP VP-SL7)
    • Elizabeth (Green ESP VP-SL7)
    • Charlotte (Red ESP VP-SL7)
    • Mona (ESP E-II Stream-SL5)
    • Maria (ESP Horizon FR)
My past guitars (not pictured) were named:
    • Selena (ESP LTD M-1000)
    • Amanda (Agile Interceptor Pro 727)
    • Tess (ESP LTD Viper 407)

I always start off with the intent of naming my guitars, but can never think of a good name or anything that sticks. Awesome collection, those Vipers are the stuff dreams are made of. :yum:

Thanks haha. Both red guitars are transparent finishes over Honduras mahogany. Charlotte is Cherry. Edith is Black Cherry.

    Yes.
My wife started it. My sunburst roadworn strat was brownie. My black strat was blackie (racist af I know, I know). My candy red strat was ruby. My ESP MII Deluxe was Trisha Takinawa. My silverburst v was silvia. My white Greco V was named ol bessie by my cousin but I'm not sure about that yet. I'm thinking Pussy Melter.

Hard pass! Not only do I not name my guitars, I often feel embarrassed for those who do. Really makes me cringe.

    depends on the guitars.
my 8 string explorer is the beast (because it's huge and mean sounding)
my 8 string tele is sombra (since the top is darker ziricote/ sombra means shade and the ziricote is from mexico).
the only other ones that have nicknames are guitars i've built.
dorothy for the ruby red sparkle destroyer I'm building
doommaster for the black beauty jazzmaster (since I made it to mostly play doom).

I don't give my guitar names but I do have a Jackson: Jenna Jameson King V guitar that one of my friends called, "the whore guitar".

I developed into having a rule that every custom guitar has to have a name. It started on about my third custom.

I have 21 guitars and some of them I name and some I don't. It depends on the characteristics of the guitar.

Signature guitars just get called after the artist ("my Merrow"), for normal guitars I just shorten the name in a way it's still clear which of my guitars I mean ("the Banshee").

I don't think the names I call my guitars are appropriate for this message board. :)

... I tried, but I always end up with the "1st 7", the "blue", the "twin/other/copy", the "fretless", the "yellow flower/mandala"... not necessarily names, but more of references, so I call them by their specific references.

No. Seems a little bit serial-killery, like the next time we see a picture of your guitars they're going to be fused with human lady hair and skin ala Ed Gein. No offence of course. Also no offence to Ed Gein, he only killed 2 so is he really a serial killer?

I did not until I bought my buddies Universe LMG and it was named "Frank" because it looked like Frankenstein. Now I name a few of mine usually something interesting or something funny.

These 2 I named after myself because my buddy said they were what I would be if I were a guitar. These two are named "Kevin" for the 6 string and "Kevin 7/ 7 Kevin/ the 7 Inches of Kevin" for the 7 string.

Nah. I just don't see a reason to. I have a strong emotional connection to my instruments, but I've never wanted to name them.

I used to, but not anymore. My last 2 purchases (December 2017 and April 2008) did not get named. My next purchase will also not get named. I guess I just grew out of it.

Of course. Otherwise my guitars would be jealous of Brian the refrigerator, and Susan the bookcase.

And it gets really hairy with my laptops since I've gone through about a dozen now and they insist on a Tolkien style "Euclid, son of Hilbert, son of Wolfe, son of Dandelion, son of Bigwig, son of Hazel, son of Fiver, son of Farnsworth, son of Bender, son of Argos", type of declaration of lineage.

Nope, it never appealed to me.
It's okay for renowned guitars of famous guitarists.
