Hi all! I'm kinda new to this part of the forum, have never posted anything here, but I read ss.org for few years already, and now want to show you guys my first build.

Here are two pics showing my build's condition to this moment:

-Tele-style body and headstock, non-angled headstock
    -Mahogany neckthrough, mahogany wings
    -Rosewood top (thickness ~4 mm)
-Thickness of the body with the top is about 29 mm
-Body with forearm cutaway and belly cutaway
-Rosewood fretboard (fretless, but with "fretlines" and sidedots), no radius
    -25,5" scale
-Neck thickness will be something like 22-23 or 23-24 mm (I like thick necks, and there is no problem to make 21-22 from 23-24 if I'll find 23-24 uncomfortable)
    -Two way ajustable truss rod
    -Gotoh locking tuners, cosmo black
    -Gotoh hardtail bridge, cosmo black
-Pickups - at this moment I have only DiMarzio DropSonic for the bridge position, will find something else after finishing the build
-1 volume, 1 tone, 1 2-pos. switch for pickups (only bridge or neck, no blending), 1 2-pos. switch for splitting neck pickup

And I have a question - does anybody want to see all the 100 pics of the building process, or should I chose 75/50/25 pics that are more interesting than others?

And a more serious question. At this moment I'm chosing the coating. If I coat the instrument with danish (or tung, or teak) oil just to see if i like it - can I coat then the whole instrument with poly without sanding down the oil? And will the poly fit the fretless fretboard? Or should I leave the fretboard coated just with oil? And no, in this build i don't want to coat the fretboard with epoxy, I'll try that some other time (never worked with epoxy before).

(I'm sorry for my poor language skills, no practice for a long time, hope the text above is understandable)

I approve of this build, but you should be a man and leave the fretboard blank.

Well, I've never played a fretless bass or guitar, and my playing skills even for fretted instruments are really poor, so for my first fretless guitar I think I need to see all frets positions on the board.

My main ideas "why fretless?" were to try out how will feel and sound the regular guitar without frets, and to learn to play something "arabic" like it is an electric oud.

I'll post all the pictures I have for this moment, hope they will be interesting for all of you guys as they shows the home build with using minimum of special tools.

And as I said in the first post, I need your help:
At this moment I'm chosing the coating. If I coat the instrument with dutch (or tung, or teak) oil just to see if i like it - can I coat then the whole instrument with polyurethane without sanding down the oil? And will the poly fit the fretless fretboard? Or should I leave the fretboard coated just with oil? And no, in this build i don't want to coat the fretboard with epoxy, I'll try that some other time (never worked with epoxy before).

As someone who owns a fretless nylon string who's fretboard I epoxy coated myself I can assure you it's pretty much the best way to go and it is shit simple to do - If you've managed all the crazy shit you've managed so far it will be a walk in the park to do the epoxy finish, really very simple but time consuming process.

After your words I think I just have to get some epoxy and try it on one of the rosewood pieces that I have after cutting the top's shape. But first I want to try polyurethane and see how durable it will be (for the fretless fretboard i mean).

Still thinking about the whole instrument coating - danish/teak/tung oil or polyurethane. I've read good things about danish oil that contains urethane and is durable enough for using as a guitar coating. Uh, and I don't want gloss - I want matte look.

Oh damn... Well, I'll try to upload pics somewhere else for you, there are 100+ pics - do you know where can I upload them with auto-resizing and all at one time? (these were the reasons why I uploaded them there where they are now)

I find photobucket works well. You could upload them as a gallery and just have people go to it. Or just put the important ones here and people can go and view the rest.

All of the pics work fine for me :) I can see that you put a lot of time and thought into this build!
