Just announced and it's already got a few of reviews online.

Basically combining the JHS Angry Charlie and Boss BD2 Blues Driver into a familiar housing and more options. Pretty cool. :yesway:

It seems like a great pedal (I love the design) but not sure if I will ever support a company like JHS or any collaboration effort with JHS.

Basically JHS is a member of a pretty radical church and provides financial support to them. He's also done the fairly typical practice of lifting pedal designs and claiming they're something unique when they're really just a clone.

    Aaaaah.

As a member of the LBGT community he can go fuck himself.

Politics/shitty-human-being stuff aside, I dig the concept. I really hope big pedal names start to get smaller guys to help develop new pedals. I know MXR/DOD is doing the same thing as well.

My question is: Will it be sold by JHS exclusively or will it have wide distribution like a regular Boss pedal ?

    This. Sadly...

I didn't know about that before until I started shopping for Devi Ever pedals, which was when I stumbled into all this.

Doesn't really bother me too much. I was never really fond of JHS stuff.

I see people recommend the Charlie pedals for a MIAB, but I've always wanted to get the Marvel Drive because it seemed to be the closest. That and the Friedman BEOD seems to do the Angry Charlie thing better than the Angry Charlie.

If I were gay I would Robert Maplethorpe this pedal all over Instagram etc... teach JHS a lesson lol. Plug into a ViK just for completeness.

Depends how you're using it, but the Animal is great. J Rockett also makes the 10 Ton Hammer, I believe, which is -- if memory serves -- the 80s modded Marshall/800 in a box. The BE-OD and Angry Charlie seem pretty bad ass as well, but the Animal is impressive for a plexi/modded plexi kinda tone. I think if I was going to go for a Aspen Pittman Dokken/Ratt/GNR tone, I'd get the 10 Ton Hammer.

Here's a Brett Kingman demo of each. I really like his demos.

Sorry to derail the thread, but I think J Rockett's MIAB stuff deserves more attention. With my Two Notes Le Clean, which is based on a Fender sort of tone, I can get the Animal almost there for a spot on Marshall tone. Messing around with the mids/sweep on the Le Clean has gotten me even closer.

A friend of mine used to sell pedals out of his shop and he really dug the J.Rockett pedals. Apparently their "Archer" pedal (a clone of the Klon Centaur) is every bit as good as the original.

IIRC correctly the angry charlie is just a crunchbox anyway. On top of supporting shitty things, most of the JHS stuff is basically a copy of something else so it really isn't all that hard to avoid them and just buy whatever it's copying.

The thing I love about the Marvel Drive is the simulated jumpered input deal. Can dial in the treble gain and get that classic crunchy "krang"-y Marshall sound, or dial in the normal drive and get something closed to a cranked Plexi.

Doesn't the Bogner La Grange pedal do something similar?

Wouldn't that be the same as dialing in more or less of one or the other?

If there any actual proof of this, or is it just based on the fact that Devi Ever had a fit over someone wanting JHS to rehouse a pedal of hers in a dual pedal?

Yea the circuits are essentially identical. JHS put the crunchbox's internal presence knob on the outside and added one cap. Pretty much all of JHS's pedals are very minorly tweaked clones like this. Ultimately this isn't a huge deal, lots of boutique companies just make clones of other circuits, but JHS tends to be more dishonest about it and hype up their pedals as revolutionary. Add that to their connection with that church and it just means that I'd much rather give my money to one of the 8 billion other pedal makers out there.
