So many big releases this year I decided to pair it down to my top 5. In no particular order...

Impetuous Ritual - Blight Upon Martyred Sentience
    Hideous Divinity - Adveniens
    Antropofagus - M.O.R.T.E
    Immolation - Atonement
Vitriol - Pain will define their death

I just discovered this very late 2017 release; instrumental Post-Rock/Metal with hints of Shoegaze, ordered the LP after just the first playthrough :D

Albums I listened to most in 2017, anticipated, or just enjoyed a lot.

    Wintersun - The Forest Seasons
    Beast In Black - Berserker
Battle Beast - Bringer Of Pain
    Perturbator - New Model
    Antti Martikainen - Northern Steel
Duskmourn - Of Shadow And Flame
    Aether Realm - Tarot
    Ayreon - The Source
Alestorm - No Grave But The Sea
    Orden Ogan - Gunmen
Mors Principium Est - Embers Of A Dying World
    Cytotoxin - Gammageddon
    Archspire - Relentless Mutation
Thy Art Is Murder - Dear Desolation
    Septicflesh - Codex Omega
David Maxim Micic - Who Bit The Moon

Supposedly great albums I need to get more into:

    Ne Obliviscaris - Urn
Dying Fetus - Wrong One To Fuck With
    Threat Signal - Disconnect
The Faceless - In Becoming A Ghost
    Kreator - Gods Of Violence
Carach Angren - Dance And Laugh Amongst The Rotten
Vintersorg - Till Fjälls, Del II
Xanthocroid - Of Erthe And Axen - Act I
Xanthocroid - Of Erthe And Axen - Act II
The Haunted - Strength In Numbers
    Epica - The Solace System
Threshold - Legends Of The Shires

Very music rich year... Ensiferum's Two Paths was a total disappointment, doesn't even make it to my list.

And I missed this album totally, quality doom/melodeath.

Soen - Lykaia is a pretty decent album. I have only listened to it once through, but will certainly be giving it more play time.

I have discussed about it with many friends, mostly people have disliked these things:

    - recycling too many riffs and melodies
    - relying too much on producers tastes
    - lazy song writing
    - not enough orchestrations
    - just general lack of inspiration
    - clean vocals by Markus & Netta taking too much space in songs

First half of the album is quite decent Ensiferum though, but rest is a huge letdown. I wouldn't say that bands shouldn't never try anything new or different, but this wasn't the right direction at all.

Yike, I kinda let 2017 get away from me. Checked out back in January lol. The Passing Light of Day is my fave for this year.

This is great. It's like if Inter Arma was Mastodon 10 years ago
