With Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, and Black Dahlia on your list, did you check out the new Through The Eyes Of The Dead record? It's phenomenal.

So I usually check all the "hipster" sites at the end of the year to try and dig out decent non-metal releases. But this year Noisey, of all places, managed to turn me on to a metal band I hadn't heard yet. It's unabashed Neurosis worship, but damn it's done well.

    Sunrot-Sunnata

I was just teasing. I've streamed the new album once, and it was okay. But then again, Glassjaw has never really been my cup of tea.

I really haven't heard of even half of these bands / albums you guys are throwing out there.

    Mine seems pretty generic...

Trivium - The Sin and the Sentence
Mastodon - Cold Dark Place & Emperor of Sand

What does it sound like? Their classic album is tied to unbelievably immature adolescent rage. I don't really know how they'd mature properly and still be identifiable as the same band. I liked about half of W&T and those more recent EPs, but man, they're OLD now. Like what, 35-40?.

Right now my Top 10 list is:
1.) Fit for an Autopsy - The Great Collapse *FFAA surprised the hell out of me with this album. Got the most listens of the year.
2.) Sepultura - Machine Messiah *It was really tough between this and FFAA's album. Sepultura's MM was probably one of their best with Derrick. Really showcased Andreas' playing and writing. Just awesome.
3.) Decapitated - Anticult *Despite the F'd up situation they're in, this album was SOLID. Great, great album.
4.) River Black - s/t *HUGE Burnt by the Sun fan so this was one of my most anticipated albums. Loved it.
5.) Ulsect - s/t *For a brand new band, Ulsect's first album was devastatingly heavy with some awesome textures to it. Lots of rotations.
6.) Once Human - Evolution *Eye of Chaos sold me on this album and band.
7.) Pallbearer - Heartless *Such a beautiful album. Love putting on the headphones and diving into this one.
8.) Arch Enemy - Will to Power *Although Loomis didn't contribute as much as I hoped, this album was still pretty good.
9.) Mastodon - Emperor of Sand *Pretty solid Mastodon album.
10.) Emmure - Look at Yourself *guilty pleasure and with a totally new lineup 'cept Frankie this album was pretty good. Heavy.

    Honorable Mentions:
**These albums are still too new and need some time to settle so I didn't want to add them in my list**
    Morbid Angel - Kingdoms Disdained
Big Dumb Face - Where's Duke Lion? He's Dead.....

    Worst album of the Year:
Suicide Silence - s/t *I don't think it needs to be discussed anymore. This album just DID NOT WORK.

35 isn't old . I read an interview with the vocalist and guitarist on New Noise, and their description is "this is the music we wanted to create but couldn't in 2002." I'm not sure how to describe it, haven't really sat down with it yet.

I have sampled a bit of it, but have not heard it in it's entirety. I am familiar with a lot of their other material, so I know they rock.

I've been playing catch up recently but here are my favorites of the year so far:

The Black Dahlia Murder - Nightbringers - TBDM Is my favorite band of all time and they have yet to disappoint me.
The Contortionist - Clairvoyant - Just started listening to this band this year. This album blew me away.
Mastodon - Emperor of Sand & Cold Dark Place - Love this band. Gotta appreciate getting 2 bangers in one year too.
Rings of Saturn - Ultu Ulla
    Thundercat - Drunk
Cellar Darling - This is the Sound - Not usually a folk metal guy, but the groove factor on this album is off the charts.
    Kublai Khan - Nomad
    PERTURBATOR - New Model
Deer Tick - Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 - Favorite non-metal band; Also never disappoints.
    Ghost Bath - Starmourner
Fit For An Autopsy - The Great Collapse
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - That Nashville Sound
Yung Lean - Stranger - Lean has transcended meme status.
Action Bronson - Blue Chips 7000
    Septicflesh - Codex Omega
Trivium - The Sin and the Sentence - Least disappointing Trivium album in a while.
    Igorrr - Savage Sinusoid
Thy Art is Murder - Dear Desolation
Cannibal Corpse - Red Before Black
    Pallbearer - Heartless
Krallice - Hyperion (Loum is still on the docket)
Tyler, The Creator - Flower Boy
Oni - Ironshore - I love the xylosynth

    Kreator - Gods Of Violence
    Overkill - The Grinding Wheel
    Rival Fire - War

Not big on Rap but 'DAMN.' by Kendrack Lamar is first class.
The song that hooked me was 'DNA.':

Please, enlighten us on what you consider the "right" music. I'm interested as you failed to contribute to the list.

Almost forgot about his one too. Really catchy/hooky blackened something or other (for Tribulation fans).

    Cloak - To Venemous Depths
