I'm in the market for a 30W practice amp. I used a Line 6 way back in the day but it always sounded like super-sonic ass to me. I've been out of the loop for some years and have used an axe fx for a few years too, and there's all these new practice amps on the market.

I'm looking into either the Vox AC30, Peavy tube or whatever, and blackstar.

I basically want a nice metal tone, and the ability to add cleans too. I don't mean to be that guy to just to make a "what's the best X amp" post, but i'm looking for a quick answer because I have a jam session with a new group soon.

You 'll have to specify a budget mate... Also you need to decide on which side you need the amp to lean more: practice (as you said at the start) or jamming with a band? Those clarifications will help people advise you much easier.

Ok. Scratch what I said above.

EVH 5150iii combo or PRS archon combo? both are 50W

That became much more defined really quick! :D
Between these 2 its mostly a matter of taste. I've played both and liked the Archon more. Better cleans and easier to tame/more polished drive.

Would you say that factory resealed is risky business if I were to buy this?

Personally I read "Factory Resealed" as basically "New".
Its been perfectly safe in my experience

I don't think that 30-50w really qualifies as a practice amp lol, but look at 5150 family combos and maybe the Mesa mk 5:25,35 etc. The full sized Archon that I tried was good, but like all of these amps, I really wanted to boost it up front and put an EQ in the loop to really find a sound I would use.

Archon. Never much a fan of any of the Fender/EVH 5150 series of amps.

I use a Roland Cube 30x with a Maxon OD808 in front which heavily colours the sound. Its a great little setup for just playing.

Orange Crush 35RT or an Orange Micro Terror head + Cheap 2x12.

    Otherwise, Roland Cube

    A 30 watt tube amp isn't what I'd consider a practice amp.

Why not? I use it for home purposes together with my 5153 50w head. Both kill with a band but also great at low volume, so why not have both options?

The Orange Crush is probably what I would go with too. They sound pretty good boosted, the cleans are very clean, and I like the reverb algorithms.

However I'd probably stick with the 60 watt version

I would check the joyo heads...

I have an orange micro dark and although I am very happy with it, I think the joyo demos I saw sound better than my orange for high gain. I play mostly some kind of stoner/doom so I like the tone of the orange.
