    Hello!

I'm not bassist, but have been recording my own music lately and have been needing a bass for my home studio. I'm no bass player (I play guitar), so I'd love for someone to point me in the right direction for a cheap starting bass. Preferably not a starter pack or kit, maybe a beginner bass but something that's not completely cheap. Although, not something fancy, just something that will fill the frequency in my mixes (not looking for an amazing tone, just something that gets the job done).

I was looking at a Squier or a LTD. I play higher end LTD's/ESP guitars but have never played their basses so I don't know if they are any good.

Looking for a 4 string but wouldn't be reluctant to a 5 string if you have a good idea.

Thank you so much for reading my post, price range is about $300-$400. Wouldn't mind buying used if there is a good listing.

Hoping for some great responses! Thanks!

For Squier, I may go with the classic vibe line
lower end ltds typically don't have very good fret job, plus the quality of the finish is not so consistent (for what I have tried)
Here are some models that I think worth checking out as well
Sterling sub ray4 / ray5, the 5 string model is still under $350
Peavey grind 4, slightly off youur budget (~$500), but if you consider used ones I don't think they are hard to find.
If you are a shredder, Jackson and Schecter have some decent ones as well.
