Arsis is currently recording a new album for 2018, no title yet. But they released a teaser of the completed drum tracking and James Malone playing along. Some cool stuff, but I always dig his riffs.

Ha, I just noticed that. Like he went completely gray. Writing tasty riffage will take a lot out of you I guess.

I liked Necromancing the Stone a lot too, so hope they do another one. I see ESP dug him out an older Standard Series Horizon too. I also assume Brandon Ellis is going to be doing leads on this one. He still lists himself as being in Arsis even after joining TBDM.

hahaha, old man metal! There are some very tasty riffs in that video. I also hope Brandon is on this album, the last one was great!

James is an avid ESP player and it never really surprises me when he's playing something I'll never have

Sounds good and James certainly has aged a bit. Arsis' history is like a snapshot of James battling some demons. This has a bit of that 'Celebration of Guilt' vibe, which is a good thing.

Don't put it too out of reach, stick it out and you can usually end up with a similar Standard Series Horizon for like $850-1200. Not too bad, killer guitars.

Oh he definitely has had his battles. Funny you mention that it sounds like the earlier vibe, he said this has been the most focused he has been while writing since A Diamond for Disease.

Hell yes!! I love Arsis so much. A Celebration of Guilt and We Are the Nightmare have influenced my songwriting a lot and are cult classics for me. Can't wait!!

I think A Celebration of Guilt has to be their best album. I have everything up to We Are The Nightmare, so not sure about anything after that.

Needless to say, I'm stoked on that video.

Only 2 and and EP after Welcome. Starve For The Devil wasn’t that great. The last one, Unwelcome is solid though.

Unwelcome is absolutely great. Clearly the point where they overcame the drama with Darren and the insane period with James.

No love for United in Regret? The production is dire but that album has some of the angriest songs known to man on it.

A Celebration of Guilt is still their best work though, one of the greatest metal albums of all time in this commentator's humble opinion.

SFTD wasn't great but it wasn't a bad album IMO. I find all the riffs by themselves to be awesome. I think it's the overall "trying to be catchy" vibe that didn't work so well.

Agreed. Killer album. Too often overlooked.

No, it wasn't awful, it has its moments, just don't think it holds up as well as the others. Closer To Cold is one of my favorite Arsis songs, love the intro.

I only have We Are The Nightmare, and it is a favorite of mine. Such a consistently great album.

Man I missed this band. Although I think everything I want to say has been said in this thread (love everything but Starve forbthe Devil is only ok, new clip sounds good, damn has James aged, etc).

I will say, when I saw them tour with Death Angel and God Forbid in the 07 - 08 range, they opened with The Face of My Innocence, into The Sadistic Motives Behind Bereavement Letters, into The Promise of Never. Easily one of my favorite opening series of songs at a concert ever.

Noooo doubt. I love the other stuff, too, but the first is unique. Riffy as hell, melodic and still brutal.
