DadaBots is a project where an AI listens and learns from albums, they have done math rock, black metal and pop among others. I've listened through a few and the beatles and the meshuggah ones were best for sure. Worth noting that this isn't learnt through midi, it is all done through audio so it does a great job of picking up sounds, tones and aesthetic, but less of a good job with things like tempo or phrasing, if you listen to the dillinger one it is damn repetetive and the battles one sounds like it is veering close to the realms of captain beefheart.

    Seriously impressive stuff.

Hmm, interesting. Not sure of the methodology, but the result sounds like, umm, a skipping Meshuggah CD...or something...

Looks like a poor submission to a NIPS workshop, using the existing sample RNN and just changing the training data:

The reason you feel it sounds like skipping Meshuggah is probably because the model is overfitting to certain sections and literally just replaying some snippets it has memorized, surrounded by noise and other artifacts of the RNN's inherent compression.
