as some of you guys are noticing, the pics hosted by photobucket are not showing up.

have not fully looked into it all yet, but ive read from others here that you will have to "upgrade" and pay for 3rd party hosting now.

    what do you currently use?

anything else out there that is better and most importantly free?

note: i will try to do more research using ask.com as soon as i can get internet explorer to work on my trs-80...

    sent from my: samsung s3

 j/k on that last part

A lot of image sites are being blocked on SSO, in my experience. Dunno what the hell is going on. I use funkyimg because it's similar to Imgur with the drag-and-drop feature.

Charges for bandwidth are a fact of life and it's only gonna get worse.

For the free service, I've always hated PB anyway... plagued with ad's, slow, glitchy... ugh.

    Google-photo? Postimage.org?

People should have ditched a long time ago. Sure, it's been here for years, but it's such a slow and shitty site to use.

Yeah it's slower than hell, I hope they end up killing their business with this idea.

I embed my pics through google drive... It's a bit of hack to export a working embed-url from there but it works once you know how to do it.

^this. I havn't been on here as much lately while taking a little break from building, just saw this today, all my thread photos are down, so mad about that, and sorry to future people wanting to see stuff about past builds, those photos will just have to stay down, way too meticulous trying to piece together all those old threads. PB was the only site I've used so far and it is absurd to come at us with a price tag like that. Absolutely no way I'll be spending 400 a year for linking photos here, especially when PB is as slow as they are.

In the long run, free services on the net are likely to go away, or require ads. Bandwith has a cost, server space has a cost, and if you're giving away things that have a cost without SOME way of monetizing it, you're likely to go out of business.

That said, web hosting is surprisingly cheap. Why not grab a domain and some hosting space, and just host the files yourself? I've used 1and1 for years now, and while their basic package is $7.99 a month, that gets you 100 gigs of storage space. $9.99/month bumps that to unlimited, and it goes without saying that this would let you host anything, not just images.

yeah I ended up downloading all my build/refinish pics in bulk and just reuploading them onto flickr/dropbox. seemed to be the easiest way to preserve the threads.

    anyone have any other suggestions?

it is so hard to navigate pb now with all the ads and pop-ups. oh, and if you want to remove ads, you have to pay for that too...
