I know right, what a thread.

Basically Periphery 1 and Tesseract's first album are sick and I want stuff that is derivative of them without changing much, maybe a little more moshy but IDK.

    Cheers, Sam.

i'd throw The Contortionist's first album, "Exoplanet" , in there. Sick fucking passages in and out, and super duper heavy. Still miss that version of them. Listen to the OG and Remastered (Redux).

    Monuments - Gnosis
Fell Silent - The Hidden Words
Vildhjarta - Masstaden and Omnislash EP
Sikth - Death of a Dead Day

IMO Chaosphere is the best Djent by definition album

Kind of wish the genre more bent toward the brutal transhumanist themes of Chaosphere than like happy space new age junk it turned out to be or Vildhjarta would put out some new shit, damn.

I don't consider The Contortionist djent but Exoplanet is such a banger of an album. Check out Substructure, they're like TC but with more djent-like elements. Theres also an album from A Room Colored Charlatan that sounds a lot like Exoplanet but I can never remember the name.

When I think *classic djent* all I really think of is Meshuggah. They still sound like the ultimate evolution of a sound, far in advance of all the blendings and watering downs, despite being the originators. Recent Sikth is sick by the way! \m/

Wondering why it wasn't mentioned: Meshuggah - Destroy Erase Improve. A lot better than their new stuff and less stereotype djent...

thanks for this! I really enjoyed the song, some elements reminded me of something you would find on BoO's "Discovery" also. Exoplanet was tough to classify, but figured to throw it in, cuz hell yes, BANGER.

I don't know if it is classic, but the only "djent" stuff I've ever bothered to listen to and get through an entire album of is Shades of Black.

The two Monuments albums are quintessential 2010's djent. They need to record a new album already.
Also Northlane's first two albums, though I'm not implying that the Marcus era is bad but I just think the first two fit the criteria more.

I'm glad someone bought this up. The style of music isn't even 10 years old yet!
