Nice! That fretboard looks really great! Are you going to put a gloss finish over that blue stain?
You'll have to wait and see I've got some nice surprises planned.
Guess what wood the top is and I'll reveal a detail haha.
Flamed myrtle? My initial guess would be flamed maple with a really dark blue stain, but it looks a bit different.
Or maybe figured mahogany?
Too obvious to be maple then...
Uh, flamed walnut or koa?
sappeli doesnt flame like that
considering how light the unstained neck pocket is, I'd guess a figured ash.
You sir, win an e cookie!
It's a 6mm myrtlewood top on a white limba back. The hole between the pots serves a purpose...
2nd question: there's some spots in the finish that are lighter than others...why would I not be botheres by that?
I think inconsistant staining can look cool personally
You need the darker and lighter streaks to make figuring pop; I was specifically referring to a "spot" under the upper horn carve
The rout between the pots: is that for a DJ-style fader? Chris Buono's got one on his First Act as a volume control, but given your control setup I'd guess that you would use it as a crossfader between the pickups.
Interesting guess! It's actually much, much more simple than that but since no one's guessing I can't reveal it yet
In an effort to keep it going, here's the next pic:
Guess the next step in the finishing process. If you all can guess it I'll reveal what the hole is for and what the next actual step is
I say you're taking a blowtorch to it, but I'm not sure why I say that
Does it involve that burrito? A small sacrifice to the gods of luthiery, perhaps?
You guys are no fun, only Celticelk is playing along *sadface*
Ok sod it, here's pics of what it looks like now
The hole is there for a small metal switch plate (black). The reason to this is because I made the body too thin for a 5 way switch to go in without adjustments like this (it's 39mm). Told you it was basic
I like the buritto idea though...
On Monday I'm taking it to my paint/laquer guy to see if we can come up with some creative ideas on how to finish this. Regardless, it will be satin and not gloss, I am 100% set on that unless he suddenly runs out of satin laquer lmao.
So is it gonna have a similar switch to an Ibanez S? Still looking quite nice.
Sorta yea, it's actually just a flat black plate that doesn't really stand out as much. The S switch is too stubby for my tastes.
Ahh good to hear. I'm not a fan of the S switches either :\
This thing wants white hardware, I feel.
If only they made white Hipshots >.< its getting black hardware, but since I havent given away all of the finishing surprises I feel you will be satisfied
let's just say that IF what I want to do is possible, it will be a 100% unique finish
That's a super cool idea. I wanna try that on one of mine.
