2018 is panning out to be a very interesting year for metalcore releases, most notably from bands that have been broken up or on hiatus for the past 10 years or so. Thus far, we’ve seen new releases or announcements from:

    Underoath
    Hopesfall
    Bleeding Through
    Taken
    The Agony Scene

I feel like I’m missing some, feel free to add! So far I’m loving that these bands still sound like these bands. None of their sounds are a huge departure from what they were originally.

What does everyone think of the new music the bands have released?

The Eighteen Visions reunion last year is the one that got me most excited. That album was heavy as shit, like Vanity but with the more coherent songwriting of Obsession and the self-titled.

I'm not 100% sure about a new album, but they are playing shows again soon!

I know this isn't entirely metalcore but any thoughts on the new Bleeding Through? The new song they put out a few weeks ago is pretty damn heavy:mf666:

I loved the new song. Has a black metal vibe to it, which I like.

That new song is all kinds of brutal, I definitely can't wait to hear the rest of the new album! I listened to "This Is Love, This Is Murderous" so much in high school that one of my friends used to randomly shout "It was a firefight!!" at me, so needless to say, I am looking forward to this one.

I think Misery Signals is writing a new LP, which makes me unreasonably hype.

I heard that as well. I am really stoked if they are. I got to catch them on the 10 year tour for Malice in Cali and am looking forward to another album from them.

Because of this thread I just went and looked to see what Poison the Well was up to. Opposite of December was on constant rotation in college but didn't really get into much after that.

I saw them live at Skate and Surf like 3 years ago. They've played a few gigs here and there but nothing super big, I think.

    What?!?!?! YES

Um, I'd consider BT to be one of the most definitive metal core bands ever haha. IMO they helped define the genre. The new song is good, not great. As far as I'm concerned Declaration was the best they ever released, Self titled & The great fire didn't even come close. Very excited to see what the rest of the album sounds like now that they're on Nuclear Blast rather than Rise (where bands go to die).

They are absolutely writing new material, all original lineup :)

@Silence2-38554 Ill state it again that nothing has been said to my knowledge about a new album, only they are playing shows again.

Could have sworn that I heard ToG 2 was happening, like, relatively soon.
