Hate the Gibson Menaces? Get a Gothic-II instead!

That totally depends on the Les Paul, because Gibson is making a lot of eggs these days. However, if you take a Heritage with decent pickups...

I had a Gibson Gothic Les Paul and Gothic Flying V. The USA ones not the epiphones. They were nice, the V especially. The Les Paul was okay, but... they just sound very bland and don't have a lot of character. Noodles is right though, some are nicer than others. Still, it's hard to tolerate a Gibson neck after being accustomed to Ibanez/EBMM.

Here a glorious idea for gibson:
Design a new guitar. They already made the les paul, SG & explorer. And a few others. Make a new shape. Stop rehashing these old designs.

They just need to reintroduce the RD, that was the most pimptastic shape ever...either that or let ESP bring over their Sugizo sig model which has 24 frets, neck through an ebony fretboard and a floyd \m/
