And if it is some parent, who knows nothing about guitar, trying to pic up a present for their son/daughter?

These scammers are bugs that deserve to be squashed.

You can still go by prices. No one should ever make an expensive investment without doing a little research.

Although... I'm kind of impartial to not caring about parents and presents, because the most I ever got was literally, a snickers bar on my birthday.

My wife would get a candy bar for her birthday too if she got anything at all, so don't bust on David. It's not his fault his parents suck ass. Birthdays are important, and if your parents can afford to do something but don't, they fucking suck.

I have to say though that any parent shopping on ebay for any gift that is all the way in China that is not a movie player for the Gameboy Advance SP is a fucking idiot. I have no compassion at all for people who get themselves screwed like that.

It's just like the WoW gold farmers. Don't knock them, they're getting paid, and what they're doing may be against game policies, but it is not illegal anywhere. Blast the people who actually buy from them though, they're the complete idiots, not the farmers!

Man I wish this site had a bigger eye roll icon, because the last few replies seriously call for it.

I completely disagree with all this "well they should do research before they buy their kids a guitar. And if they get screwed, oh well." While I agree with doing research, if they look on ebay, and find a k-7 knockoff, and go and google "ibanez k-7" then they will find info on the actual k-7 model. They may or may not notice that the ebay fake, and any pics on google that they find look noticeably different, but if they see that they both say "ibanez k-7" They might think the ebay one is a different version or something and just go "oh well the older model is cheaper, so I can save a couple bucks" The fact that the guitar only costs like 2 bucks should caution them, but they might even see the shipping amount, and think "Oh well that's a fair price then" It's dumb to think that the shipping cost makes up for the 2 dollar opening bid, but not all parents trying to do something nice for their kids is l337 at ebay.

Any guitarist who knows about ibanez, or gibson or whatever, should know the difference, but a parent who isn't into guitars, can easily miss it. Saying shit like "oh well, who cares. All I got was a candy bar" is just plain ignorant. It sucks that that's all you got, but really why should there be any lack of compassion for parents trying to do something nice for their kids, and get screwed, because of what you got on your birthdays?

POOF!

Lack of compassion? I am entirely devoid of compassion. I can not and will not feel an ounce of pity for someone who gets taken by a shady deal or a scam. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

When you are interested in buying a car, you do your research, you go to the dealerships, you test drive, you talk to car salesmen, you read consumer reports, then you go talk to people who have the car you're interested in buying and get their opinions, and then you throw all that gained wisdom away and order yours from some complete stranger on eBay who, as far as you know, is just selling the same product as the dealerships but at a lower price??????

That kind of idiocy is not what I would categorize as "doing something nice for their kids". I can say this because I am a parent, old enough to be yours as a matter of fact. When you've lived long enough to truly mistrust everyone and everything, and you haven't, you'll see things from another angle. I actually care about my kid, and if he needs something, anything, nothing but the very best from the best and most appropriate source will do.

Now, here are my questions:
Have you reported the fraudulent vendor to eBay?
Have you contacted Gibson about the fakes?
Have you actually written the vendor to let them know that you're on to them?
Or is it more important to you to at fellow ss.org members who are right than to actually do something about it?

Well, a couple things.

I hate Gibson. Not their guitars, those are fine...it's their management and corporate mentality. They have all but asked to be copied.

I hate these counterfitters. They need to spend as much energy they do on creating neew and exciting things. It'd be better for everyone if they did.

I hate ebay. They allow people to sell garbage like this unchecked, but stomp on other legitimate auctions, but I won't get into that now.

I'm full of hate, grrr.
