I was GASing for that JP, then I started playing my K7 and that faded in a heartbeat. :P Very nice though. I still prefer the red finish you have.

You know what strikes me most about that guitar? The gap around the trem is very even. I'm impressed by that. OK, back to my hobbit hole now

Dan, you're weird.

Yeah, I'm thinking its the 24.75" proto we saw them working on, too.

I'm not HUGE on mahogany, but I love a good quilt - give me that in a 25.5" seven, and I'd be pretty happy.

The short scale proto has been scrapped, this is the official word from Big Poppa himself!

what's with the antisymmetrical pickup mounting rings?

great guitar!

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

Mmmm, quilty. I've been jonesing for a guitar with a quilted top. I always tell myself it'll help my playing because the guitar will have more mojo, but I know that's not true...

Yeah, and I think the short scale proto has only 22 frets and a fixed bridge anyway.

Those plastic pickup mounts really spoil the look of the guitar. Granted, they probably do a good job of stabilizing the pickups in their cavities, but they really look awful.

They're asymmetrical because they have two adjustment screws on the bass side and one on the treble side. Carvin has used that arrangement for ages. Three mounting points make the pickups less likely to "rock" in their mounts, and also gives you more precise control over the tilt of the pickup, so you can keep both sets of poles equidistant from the strings.

ahh. yeah, they look terrible. i'm sure they could make a symmetrical mounting ring, though.

also, would you have to get a pickup with three mounting tabs?

That is pretty nice, if it was a 7, it would be even better. I really like the scuplted body on these JP 7s. Nice find, TDW.
