Daisy Rock Guitars - guitars for goils!

I was quite surprised that these 'guitars for girls' actually existed. I knew about the Squier Hello Kitty mini guitar but this is entirely new for me.

Also there is a page (called 'mission') on the site that says females have trouble playing 'normal' guitars.

When I started playing I first thought that it was harder for me too as I have small hands, but I can easily play a sevenstring now, so it's not a problem after all :P Maybe they didn't try hard enough and this is another feminist action, or would this really be something awesome to make women more prominent in rock music?

It's kind of nice that there's a company making "girls guitars" only, but imo, it's not like all others guitar company are "men only". But hey, if it makes more girls grow confident into playing guitar and do some music, that this is for them too, it's all good me thinks.

I hate it when people say that their hands are "too small" or something, when they can't do something right away. I really think its 90 percent in training your hand to do what you want it to do. But it would be interesting to know if there is any truth to it.

Yeah, Daisy Rock guitars are actually pretty sweet. A lot of them come with Duncans in them that actually sound pretty brutal! As I recall, a Daisy Rock got Guitar Player magazine's Pick of the Year Award in either '06 or '07. They are nice and light, and actually very comfortable to play. If I came into some money to waste, I would totally find myself playing a metallic pink Daisy Rock guitar at a show!

.....Okay, maybe not. But they really are fun to play, and well built for the money.

The company is actually owned by the wife of the guy who runs Schecter.

While the finishes are a bit ...shocking in several cases, the general idea is lighter bodies, slightly shorter scale lengths, narrower/slimmer necks, and competitive price-to-quality ratios. Honestly, the few I've played (that aren't the $200 cheapies) really do kick ass and sound good.

Also, the DD Detonators are actually really nice pickups. Much more versatile than the Invader that they're based off of, with lower output and a more even response.

Their market understanding is certainly spot-on. My wife saw the famous Daisy Rock "flower guitar" at Guitar Center awhile back and totally fell in love with it. She would have loved to have had a guitar like that when she was a little kid.

Methilde, I agree that Daisy Rock's marketing borders on being patronizing--"girls can't play regular guitars so easily, so we'll make these 'special' guitars for them." However, I think the idea is to make the initial guitar experience more appealing to girls around the age of 12 or 13 so that they are more likely to take up the instrument in the first place. They definitely need a Daisy Rock 7-string, though!
