![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | NGD: 2003 EBMM JP6 Blue Dawn Sparkle! Well it was my birthday yesterday so combining that with my stimulus check I had some funds available and a guy locally was selling a JP6. It was already a pretty decent price but I managed to talk him down even more! Woot negotiating skills ftw! ![]() Anyways, what I ended up grabbing was his JP6 Blue Dawn Sparkle (discontinued finish, only 50 made IIRC?). No piezo but that wasn't a deal breaker since the finish was cool and the price was definitely right. This is the first pre-DSonic Petrucci I've been able to play and I have to say.... EBMM should really go back to having DiMarzio custom-wind both the neck AND bridge pickups! The custom bridge pickup that DiMarzio wound for the older JP models is wayyyyyy better than the D-Sonic they use now IMO. If my JP7 had this pickup in the bridge I probably wouldn't have even considered letting it go. ![]() The Good - Pickups sound great, first basswood guitar I haven't instantly disliked the tone of in the bridge position! ![]() Finish is really unique. ![]() TONS of birdseye in the neck.... seriously one of the best-looking JP6 necks I've ever seen... and you guys remember the JP6 I had before this! ![]() Great playability as I have come to expect from all EBMM guitars. ![]() The So-So (I'd say "Bad" but at the price these are minor complaints really) - There is a small ding in the finish on the front near the side of the fretboard There is a small ding in the fretboard on the low E near the 14th fret He had Petrucci sign the front of the guitar at a Clinic he did at Washington Music Center! I would have preferred the back of the headstock so it doesn't detract from the look of the guitar. ![]() The strings are still the SAME set it came with back in 2003... take a look at that dried out fretboard! ![]() Learn to care properly for your guitars mothereffer! ![]() So, after a good setup and thorough fretboard oiling (still tempted to dye the fretboard with the Stewmac ebony die that PRS and Gibson use... ) I think this thing is going to be a monster. I tried it out unplugged before I hooked it into the GT-10 and it rang out crazy-loud which is always a good song. Acoustic tone is important IMO and this thing is loud! All-in-all a rare find and a cool piece. Glad I hopped on it too, great price and barely played. Can't beat that! ![]() Here are a few of his pictures, I'll snap more when the sun comes out again (it's pouring rain down here in NoVa): ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
