i used a Q-tip for dying the wood next to the inlay. You can easily remove the dye from the inlay by using a rubber afterwards.

that's what i tried at first, but the dye constantly got in between the tape and wood...

You can get it off with an eraser though right? Eh, I dunno.

I actually reckon I'll do this to my acoustic guitar. I have leather-dye (for shoes) and my acoustic is a POS anyway, so if I naft up, no love lost.
