![]() ![]() ![]() | Loktide, how does the mtm2 compare to your 3120? I used to own a 3120, and seeing this pictures have made me gas badly for the mtm2. ![]() |

The 3120 has a maple top and resonates brighter and louder, which you can especially hear when playing both unpugged. The build quality on the 3120 is also the best i've seen on an ibanez ('prestige' used to mean something at that time...), while the mtm2 is just pretty much ok but not outstanding. The neck on the 3120 is a tad thinner and roughly 1mm less wide (just measured it). I find this actually to be a minus on the 3120, since the neck it's too thin and i took me a while to get used to doing vibratos on the high e without it popping out the fretboard. Otherwise it plays almost identical and the painted neck isn't sticky or unpleasant at all (like stitch also confirmed). The factory fretwork was pretty much ok with exception of the 18th fret, which i had to adjust slightly in order to get nice low string action. In a nutshell, the 3120 cost me almost 1000$ new back then ('99) and the MTM2 is an incredibly deal considering it costs less than half. The MTM2 is definitely on par with the 1000$+ current 'prestige' ibanez's, but isn't as high-quality as the 3120. For what i bought it for (down-tuned metal mayhem riffery), it's perfect with the EMGs. edit: i almost forgot, the UV-style jack on the mtm2 is a HUUUGE plus and i love it!!!

![]() ![]() ![]() | Awesome. I asked because after selling my rg3120, I bought an RG1570 like 3 months ago, and I didn't like it as much, although it was "prestige". That Mick Thompson sure does look nice! |

my fingertips get a little black after playing, but i guess it's just because there's still a small amount of dye on the surface i couldn't wipe off. The dye soaks into the wood, so i doubt it'll come off.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think the Rosewood on that looked lovely before you dyed it; sure it's a little pale, but it had some wonderful grain in it. ![]() Still, looks pretty cool now, though.
