Wizard II does this "U" shape with a flat spot on the back, I suppose so your thumb has better articulation. Wizard II also is slightly thicker

Funny to me because the wizard is skinnier yet it feels more comfortable then the odd shape of the wizard II.

I really just dont get on with the wizard too well anymore, used to love it, but its too thin for me. The wizard 2 is the nicest 6 string profile ive used on a production guitar imo

my main guitar since 1987 is a rg 550 - (Wizard one) there isnt much difference between it and the wizard 2 on my Rg3EXQM (aside that the 2 has binding and is a smidge thicker)


Yeah the 2 is a flat U shape but both necks are so thin the profile doesnt really alter the feel much at all (at least it doesnt to me)

I have a Wizard II on my S470 DXQM-CN (2005 model) but it feels fine. I've played newer Wizard II necks and they feel different. I wonder why that is. Not a fan of the D shape.

IMO the difference between the Wizard II and Wizard is vast, especially on the newer MIK S bodies that Ibanez churn out of their factories.

Not only is the Wizard II a different shape, the fretboard is a different radius to the ZR and makes it harder to achieve super low action without buzzing, of course this only affects the S series.

Another point; the RG Wizard II necks are different to the S body WII necks. On the MIK S the WII feels like a slightly flattened baseball bat, where as on the RG it's not too bad.

your neck radius should have absolutely no effect on low action in terms of buzz, provided its matched to the bridge and nut. also according to hoshino USAs spec sheets the ZR, lopro and edge pro have the same built in 16" radius. who knows how accurate that is though

Exactly. Action is a result of fretwork, not neck profile.

well he was aiming at a different radius supposedly on the new wizard II necks but still. the radius is irrelevant along a single string for buzz. where it DOES come into play on a single string is for bends, where the 3rd dimension is reintroduced, as by default any radius can eventually make the bend fret out.

spot on about the profile feeling different though. grab my 01 rg350 and the 08 rg350 at the shop. same profile name, 2 very different profiles

Yes, but if the bridge has a flatter radius than the board, and you set action based on the E strings, the D and G string will be set lower relative to the frets and buzz.

Korean Wizard II necks have a 400mm radius, Japanese Wizards pretty much all have a 430mm radius.

...exactly, the ZR has a flatter radius than the fretboard (on a WII neck) resulting in the high E and low E being higher off the fretboard than the ADGB.
