I really don't like the SV's; they look silly to my eyes.

Fixed.

The SV's do look different though, but I dig them.

That doesn't make much sense at all, given that it's a total new trem design with high quality features. Plus, the trim lock tuners. They had to design those as well (or at least buy the rights to make them from Planet Waves, I forget which). I would say those two factors would make it more expensive.

IBANEZ 2008 SV5470F Natural Blue 6-String Electric Guitar

First off, has anyone seen the other 24 fret S prestige guitars for sale? I can't find the one with the locking trem, although I must admit, this might be JUST what I'm looking for. $1300 is really not that bad (I don't think...), because I remember when they were first leaked on the Japanese site and everyone was freaking with their online currency converters out because they thought these would be around $1700.

To anyone with or having played an S series (even though I have, I just don't remember so well), is the tone good? Does the thin body rape that good ol' mahogany tone, or is it still there?

Justified GAS? Unjustified? Either way, it's there. I know I want my next guitar to be somewhat of a shredder guitar, and have a trem (because I already have three guitars without a trem, so really what would be the point?).

The GAS strikes...
I've owned a 22 fret S2170 briefly. It has monster tone, but I hated the fret access and the way it felt in general. I tried the S24 a month ago, and it pretty much fixed all the problems I've had with the S series in the past. The tone is just as beefy (The body gets fairly thick in the middle), and feels much better than a normal S. I hope that helps at all.

Awesome Which model was it, the S5470 or the SV?

If I remember correctly, S series guitars aren't neck heavy, but shouldn't they be? The bodies are so light.

Hmm also, from the looks of it, it would be rather tedious to install a Tremol-no into an S series guitar with a ZR bridge. Especially now with that Zero Point system in there... it looks like the whole claw spring attachment would have to be removed and replaced.

Wait - they actually have a dive-only thing only on the SV series, so that looks like the better option

bradsteen is on a distinguished road
I am SOOO pissed at Ibanez now! I spent a ton of money and time buying an S470DXQM, upgrading the pickups to Evos, getting everything set up to play like a dream (and the ONE thing I was always disappointed in was the lack of 24 frets) ...and now that I've gotten it to that point, they make it just the way I want it. Grrrrr!

Its not like people have been asking them to do this since 1990 or so, or anything like that

Word on the streets is that a lot of S24 have REALLY poor sustain, like 1/3 that of a normal guitar.

Because of what? Two extra frets?

Sounds like harmony central idiots sprouting toxic verbal-gunk.

Didn't you know? The more frets you have over 22, decreases your sustain by 1/6 for each fret!
