Question Calling all Ibanez MTM2 owners...

So far, from what i can see, this guitar has everything i want in a 6er (minus a 27" scale ), so what my question is, to all you who have PLAYED one or OWN one, what are the bad things about it that you dont like? Please, no nit picking about the seven on the trussrod cover and little bity shit like that tho. I really want this to be my next 6er, as its almost like MY custom i want, so i just want to make sure im getting quality with it...

Looking for an Ibanez RG970XL

Its made in Korea yeah? I must admit the last MIK I owned was my Schecter C7 and I hated it... but don't think it was the country of origin, just the sound of a JB in mahogany and the thicker-than-Ibanez-and-Yamaha neck.

Has anyone owned one of these and can comment on build-and-component quality?

yeah, im not worried at all about the pickups because im gonna eithe rthrow Blackouts in there or White EMGs. All i am wondering about is build quality, fretwork, etc.

yet again, im not concerned with things that can be replaced with after market parts (ie pickups, pots, switches), i just want to know if anyone has had any issues with these, cuz im about to buy one and i wanna know what my fellow family members think about it

I played it a number of times.

I thought the fretwork was done very well. Looks are killer, and I was surpirsed that it was MII. I really liked the neck carve, and the bridge felt good.

Complaints, well, the fretboard looks cheap as shit.

I own one, bought it cheaply through a friend when I needed something for the last tour, and it's turned out to be the best 6 that I've owned. I played it on the road every day for a month and it just got better every day.

Everyone who's played it so far has fallen in love with it, 7DT keeps trying to sneak out of my house with it, and if there is ever an LACS possibility for me, it will be a 7 string version. To be honest, I would NEVER buy a signature model of any artist (ie an Evo, K7, Petrucci EBMM etc) but this thing is essentially a great guitar with a truss-rod cover that you can overlook

We re-wired it with an 81 and an 85, with some obligatory ridiculous wiring combinations. The fretwork is excellent, the neck is super comfortable, the bridge does the job really well, finish is 100% and how can you argue with an Ibanez reverse headstock?

Downsides? The black has worn off the bridge on the string clamp bolts where my hands were touching, but I was playing a 1&3/4hr set and sweating profusely on it every day and I think it looks cool that it's slightly worn.

AND, it looks great onstage:

OK, good things about this guitar:

- Plays extremely well
- Very good build quality
- Feels superb
- Pickup swap does wonders and really makes it shine
- Fixed Lo Pro for really good tuning stability
- No horrid artist specific inlays
- UV Style jack, which is always a very good thing
- Painted neck. Now a lot of people don't like them, and yes, they do feel sticky to start off with, but I have found that once the neck gets played in, it actually is strange, it becomes very fluid feeling and fast.

Things I don't get on with (personal preferences, so don't take it as gospel!)
- I've pretty much played trem guitars all my life, so I don't get on with fixed bridges, having said that it's still good
- Stock pickups, but you knew that. But, slap anything else in there, and the body wood plus how much this guitar does vibrate makes it killer

Pretty much it
is a fantastic axe. All the hardware is there, neck is ace and the only thing it needs is a high grade switch, and pickups of choice, possibly replace the entire electronics, as that's where they have really gone for the cost saving. So replace all that and it's a stellar guitar. I can't justify getting one though, if i played 6's a lot more i definately would though.

Truss rod covers are easily removed (or replaced).
