Ibanez S with ZR for sustainer... suggestions?
Hey guys,
So, it's that time again... I'm looking at a decent trem guitar to add to my collection, and my only "locking" instrument (a Spirit "broom handle" R-Trem equipped guitar) is very stiff feeling, although that does contribute to its incredible stability. I built a parts guitar with a licensed Floyd (ugh, if only I'd known better at the time) that I had block; unbelievable tone, but terrible trem stability. However, I had a chance to play an S520EX at a local store, and I absolutely loved the adjustability, feel, and stability of the ZR trem, as well as the SLSMG-style feel of the carved body, and the price used on Ebay ($350 shipped on average.) I also have a Sustainer that I got for Christmas that I have yet to toss into anything, and those things kind of scream for a good whammy system. However, I could not STAND the neck. My SLSMG's neck is slim, but it's at least got a rounded back. The Wizard II on the S520EX was practically square and felt very uncomfortable, with my hand cramping after a relatively short amount of riffage at the store. Are there any direct-replace Ibanez necks that could be had for reasonable money that have a bit more thickness or curve to them? What would people suggest? I really want a 22 fret S with ZR, but with a thicker neck... and I can't afford to go custom at this point. |

you could get it and sand down the shoulders to take it from the D shape to more of a C shape
