Is there anything left that you still prefer to use a six for?

What I mean is, are there any techniques/tunings/sounds you still prefer to use a six for in preference to a seven?

For me it would be...

1) Tuning to C. For some reason it makes more sense for me to do C standard tuning on a baritone-scale six rather than adding an extra G or F string. The same goes for certain other open/altered tunings where I can't really find a 7-string version that works for me; when I do the SYL GCGCGCE tuning I always find myself playing on almost the top six strings exclusively, so it makes more sense to just use my Les Paul rather than my Hellraiser.

2) Whammy stuff. For some reason whammy bars on sevens do nothing for me.

3) Playing chords with the bass notes fretted with the left-hand thumb. I don't do this much, but it fricking hurts having to reach over the low B to do it.

4) Teaching. When I've taught lessons, especially with beginners, I always just bring a six in standard tuning to avoid any confusion. I'd only bring the seven if a student was particularly interested in ERGs.

Absolutely Nothing! I sold off all my 6's except for my acoustics.

i'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but that's become the case with me. Maybe some day down the line when i have more time and i can expand my playing repertoire i can make better use of a 7-string but i haven't touched for more than 5 minutes in the last several months.

Sikth songs. Better to use AADGBE opposed to ADADGBE or something IMO.

Since my bassist has only a four string, I use my 6 to avoid confusing him.

Well maybe you shouldn't just follow my root notes, then!

What a Djentleman!

I use my 6-string acoustic for open tunings. Like the OP, I use my 6 for using my thumb on the bass string and for when I go to my guitar lessons. I also use my 6 for jazz band at school and for this hardcore/thrash band I'm in.

Schecter C-7 Blackjack w/ '59(neck) and JB(bridge)
Sigma Acoustic (CGCEGC)
