![]() ![]() | What do you look for in a guitar? What draws you to a guitar? Playability, look, how many other people have one, sound, etc. or any combination of these things or whatever you can think of. Personally I think sound and playability are a given, but a really important thing to me is looks. I need a guitar with zazz. It's hard for me to settle on a 7 string or 6 string because there's not a lot of guitars that really grab me with the appearance. Same goes for signature guitars that are really unique. The Ernie Ball Petrucci sig is pretty ambiguous for a signature guitar, it doesn't scream crazy unique and locked to that artists image like some. So what do you guys look for in a guitar? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Very much looks. playability them tone (cus tone can be upgraded later i.e pickups n shit) Has to look smexey Then has to have LOW as it gets action. i used to bo all about the thin necks but prefer thicker ones for playing comfort and if the action is low as it gets i can handle the neck no matter the thickness ![]() I only every look for 7s these days... 6's just look weird now without that extra string haha |

![]() | "Style" is an important factor for me. I generally don't click with teles, strats, and superstrats and people say I look weird playing them. I mostly enjoy playing Les Pauls and variations of the les paul shape (SG, LP-DC) and my only 7 is a semi-hollow singlecut guitar. I consider myself very lucky to find that one, because damn near every 7-string on the market is a superstrat. And there's nothing wrong with that, it's just that every shredder on the planet plays one and I like the classic look, feel, and tone that the Les Paul offers. Then we're back to the style-factor. Occasionally though, I fall over something that is way out of my usual preferences, but I still adore the look of. The Carvin V220 (Marty Friedman used to play one in the Cacophony days) is up very high on my GAS list. |

![]() ![]() | Playability always comes first for me. Some guitars when I play them just feel like crap to me so I'm a little picky about it sometimes. Sound isn't all too important to me. I certainly admit that some guitars sound better than others but unless its a real cheap peice of shit then I usually don't think of the guitar itself as sounding "bad" more that it just has its own character of sound. A pickup change can usually fix any grip I have about a guitars sound anyway. Looks is another very important aspect of a guitar for me as well. I'm always going for something as unique as I can. Very few production models out there really appeal to me, I don't want to have just the same old guitar that a bunch of other people have. This is one reason I'm not very into Strats and LP's anymore, because it's very hard to have one that is original. If I am planning on getting any production model I usually also have a plan to customize and make it more my own. Other than that 24 frets and a floyd is pretty much a must on any guitar I own. Except my 7 is fixed bridge. Thats the only reason its not my main guitar. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If it doesn't look good I'm not buying it so I guess style and aesthetics first. After that it's all about quality of the wood and construction. Everything else can be fixed (assuming it's worth it so maybe price comes next )Then it's down to hardware, tuners, knobs, pickups; all these are easy to change though so assuming I don't think I'm getting soaked for them in the first place I don't mind replacing them. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I always look for guitars in my price range, I narrow them down by what I think looks nice (Carved tops, flame/quilt maple are pluses) and then I examine their features, how they play etc... Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance only hides the truth. And the longer that truth has to hide, the more it stings when it makes itself known. http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/gen...ml#post1166807 Buy my sunglasses! ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I look for playability, how comfy it is in all positions. Color and look is afterwards unless I'm looking for something specific like a warlock or V.... Mostly everything else can be modified to tastes. |
