I think everyone in metal should try to get Chuck Schuldiner's tone, I love it. Necrophagist's tone is good too, I think they're trying to match his as well.
I don't like Chuck's tone at all. X2N into a shitty Marshall 8100, I'll pass. Necrophgist's tone on Epitaph is one of the best metal tones I've ever heard though.

Heh, you love it, I personally hate it. The leads are alright, but I find the rhythm sounds thin. Same for Necro tbh. I do like that bright Marshall sound though. Think About to Crash by Dream Theater's intro.

and Lord Lemons, icwutudidthar.

edit: hmm, listening to Epitaph, it's not bad actually, it's Onset that I'm not as much a fan of.

Probably not as bass-y a tone as one might expect, but I find it to be very modern and aggressive sounding - judging from all the loomis stuff I've seen. It's a simple, high quality weapon. Affordable, attractive and deadly.

Chuck's tone to me sounds hard to play. It's actually clean with processing. Sits in the mix really nicely and I can hear every note.

HERESY! But yeah, I like Necrophagist's tones. I don't know how they do with EMG's.

I love everything about his tone! Sacred Serenity FTW.

Also, yeah, Onset and Epitaph are really quite different.

EMG's record really well, I just think they sound like garbage in person. Also I don't think he was using EMG's for everything on Epitaph. I believe all the leads were done with an Ibeenhad with DiMarzio's. I could be wrong though, but I remember reading something like that before.

Oh yeah, he said he recorded every solo with his brother's JEM, but I thought he got endorsed with Ibanez after Onset.

Muhammed signs endorsement deal with Ibanez Guitars
Muhammed Suicmez signs an endorsement deal with Ibanez Guitars. The cooperation involves a whole new guitar model that will see the light of day in 2007.

Other than that, endorsement deals were recently signed with ENGL Amplification and ISP Technologies, the manufacturer of one of the best Noise Gate Units on the market.

After having used Ibanez Guitars and ENGL Tube amps while recording both "Onset Of Putrefaction" and "Epitaph" by choice, this just feels like the right thing to do.
Whoops, LOL. Yeah, you're right, I think.

I've seen pictures of him playing a Vigier Marilyn and an ESP/LTD MH-400 before he started playing Ibeenhad. He probably used those guitars on the recordings as well.
