Also the EMG's do cost, and changing passives to actives requires all new hardware doesn't it?

I mean in the end I'm just justifying what I bought--I've been after one of these ever since I saw James from Arsis play one.

We now have the same guitar, not sure if he used the 81/85 combo but hey...
Your missing the point. It is still a 300 ax. I would not want a tremel-no. I don't understand people who use this. I want the trem. I love the edge trem. Why would you buy a guitar with a trem just to block it?? Plus emgs are great metal pickups but they have such a one dimensional sound. they are cold and don't allow you to actually hear the wood or the guitar in general. You basically paying a premium to kill your guitars tone.

I guess I could sell them and put in Blackouts if need be...I would put passives in but it would cost a lot.

Maybe I will at a later time.

Like i said, pickups dont generally factor into a used guitar's price. As far as the electronics hardware, if you buy a set, it comes with the pots, and most guitars come with stereo jacks. So all you'd need to do is buy a 3 way switch.

if you want to justify it to yourself, just say it like this:
This guitar is worth it to me, cause its what i wanted.

You're missing the point. Its so you can block it if you want for doing rhythms, etc. or set it in dive only mode if you want to tune to drop D, but if you loosen the screws, the trem is fully functional.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

It seems pretty pointless to me. I don't block my trem for doing rhythms. For me it makes no sense and adds no value. So I'm not missing any point in terms of it's value to me.

Well, if you're like me, you would see the trem as kind of pointless, with only the locking nut as the only useful benefactor from it. I'm going to get the guitar set up to 10-52 in D, and if I don't like how the trem feels / works again, I'm going to lock it in and enjoy switching between B and D

Then why buy a guitar with a trem? There are many fixed bridge guitars out there. Many models offer both trem and fixed bridge. A trem has many uses. Mostly to add more expression, but there are also many fun tricks as well.

Well that's why I got the Ibanez RG520QS with the modded fixed bridge.

My favorite band (used) to play this and I think it looks absolutely superb. Ibanez doesn't offer the 550 Purple in a fixed bridge.

I owned an RG 350MDXBK and I loved it. Definitely worth the money. I sold it to Alex because I needed the money but man, it was a great guitar. I loved the maple neck with the black sharkfins too.

Shreddy Krueger is a jewel in the rough
I haven't played any of the Indonesian Ibby's that weren't decent.
Maybe I got lucky...

While the Edge III is a pretty fucking far cry from the LoPro or Original Edge(my favorite) it's still way better than most stock trems...
I've had good luck with mine anyway.
All I ever do is swap out the pickups anyway.

But I agree the market is nuts right now.

I owned a slew of 550's and until recently I could get a decent DiMarzio'd RG for under $400.
When I got REALLY broke a few months ago I got lucky and got $750 for my RG 550DX(purple mirror w/ Breeds) and $600-ish for my scalloped RG 550, which I wasn't complaning when I sold em', there is no fucking way I would pay that myself.

I bought my last RG before the price hike in mint condition @ a guitar store w/ DiMarzio's & HSC for $195
