Post RGA121?

Hey all,

I was wonderin if anyone on the boards owned/had played an RGA 121 6er. I'm curious to hear people's impressions. I like some of the colour options on it (crushed ruby is awesome, as is the natural) and was wondering how they played.

For those who don't know what it is, an example is on the 'bay here:

Ibanez RGA 121H CDR in "Crashed Dark Ruby" Neu 2007 ! - eBay (item 150209595677 end time Feb-03-08 03:13:44 PST)

Cheers

What was awesome about em dude? I have some serious GAS for one at the moment as it's kinda sorta similar to my sca220 (fixed bridge, same pickup selections... but has that 24 fret neck and is a PRESTIGE )

And does that mean the Ibanez Rules website is wrong, cause it states that the 121H has a maple cap too?

Um, they just feel awesome. the body is a bit thinner (not too much, but its noticable), so they really seem kinda like a mix of an RG and an S. Great wizard neck profile (not all fucked up like some seem to be lately), fretwork is great, thats probably the most comfortable wraparound bridge ever, easily one of my favourites for fixed bridge.

Yeah, the entire point of the H is that its mahogany. Ibanez coding has H as mahogany, sort of like A is for Ash, and there are others. Rich knows alot, but take everything he ever says ever with a grain of salt. Thats the only actual difference between the 121 and the 121H, the maple cap. the 121 is mahogany+maple, and the 121H is just mahogany. the H doesnt mean available-with-non-natural-finishes, its a model indicator. Seriously, get on that. they play AMAZINGLY. Like i said, great fretwork+neck, awesome hardware, and the body is just the perfect mix of the RG and S. like 4 parts RG and one part S

Seriously epic guitars. I can't get enough of mine! Easily the greatest guitars Ibanez has ever produced IMO. I prefer the ones with the maple cap though. I'm not a fan of plain Mohagany, but thats just a preference of mine. After playing mine with stock pups, and then playing my RG7321, it makes the basswood feel stale and lifeless. I am actually a fan of Dimarzio/IBZ pups, they sound great in maple/mahogany body. The fretwork is perfect on mine, and the neck profile is fast and comfortable, fit's like a glove if you have shorter fingers. The body is what first attracted me to it though, Max gave a great description of it. This model is pretty much the best of the RG and the best of the S, forged into one tr00 instrument.

I'm going to make this pencil disapper

Well thats 2 for the maple cap...

The maple wouldn't make things sound muddy when seriously detuned do you think? (I am thinking of going down to c and even b pretty regularly)

nah, the maple will brighten your tone up quite a bit.
maple + low tunings = win.

I'm typing this on my knees with my butt in the air. -Drew

No, not at all. The lowest I've tuned to is Drop C, and it still sounded crisp. I actually kept the guitar in that tuning for a good two weeks, which is a lot to say about me. I usually stay in standard to keep things sounding tight, but with my RGA, thats a non-issue.

quite the opposite. maple is very bright, and a maple cap adds some good snap to the attack of a mahogany guitar
