PRS fans....McCarty Korina vs. regular McCarty?

my younger brother just bought a McCarty Korina in Antique Natural finish (like this one: Gbase - Gear Details ) and he's a little bit torn on how he feels about the finish. from what i understand from what he told me on the phone, was that he'd been doing research, and knew that the McCarty was what he wanted, but he was feeling a bit impatient and bought the guitar he did because the store had it in stock and it had the features he wanted, as opposed to waiting for a similar one with his preferred finish.

i believe he'd like to know if there are any particular advantages or disadvantages to the Korina over the regular models (i know that the woods are different....he says he likes how it sounds, and i told him that's the most important thing, but he's a bit iffy on how it looks). makes sense to me to be a little bit unsure when you're spending that kind of cash for gear, especially for the first time. obviously you want it to be as perfect as possible for your tastes.

I really like the look of all Korina PRS. There are no disadvantages of that wood and it's awesome imo. Ask member NIKT also, he wanted to buy one of these

so if it's matter of look, hard to tell is it good or bad choice for him, maybe wrong, imo perfect, cause all korina RPS aren't so popular.
Sound is different, look is awesome, but if he doesn't like the finish.....

1. nothign wrong with a korina guitar
2. if he's dropping the money on a PRS, he should get the PRS he wants, don't settle. if he wants a certain finish, he should wait and get the guitar he actually wants.

3 cheers for free gear!

you can always refinish the better sounding one. you cant resounderize the better looking one though
id say go with that one if it sounds better, save some scrill and get it refinned

It's hard to tell what is bad or good in korina... the same way how You can't tell that about mahogany

They sound different

Mahogany You probably know

Korina has less of that snapy highs, more bass and more round and warm sounding mids. It's great wood for jazzy, clean stuff but it's hard to control all that warm with hot and bassy pickup.

Also as i know the korina McCarty don't come in blue burst. Please remember that korina that PRS is using on his guitars is almost yellow, without patterns or very visible grain, and more dark paint You put on it the more it looks like a plain color, not transparent, that's why I love it in natural finish,You can see the grain that looks like bug holes in wood

Did Your brother bought this guitar with 30day return policy?? maybe he can give it

yeah, he got it at Guitar Center, which has the 30-day thing, and he's definitely been considering that. i think we both realize also that he'd have to get a normal McCarty if he wanted one with the finish he really wants.

i'm gonna link him to this thread, see if he has anything to add.
