if you just want that look, couldn't you just sand down the body and then just get an AAAA quality veneer that looks like that, do a binding/faux binding *to make it look like top wood instead of veneer* ; then just do a really good clear over?
That's how I'd do it, anyway.

As stated, it's a KL (Ken Lawrence). DEJ847564890whateverthefuck can probably correct me, but I believe the board member was "SYL" and he's owned 6 or 7 KL's. I've always wanted one, but unless I win the lottery it just ain't gonna happen. They start at around 6 or 7000 bucks

I've been thinking on how to do a "wood finish." The swirl technique comes to mind without actually swirling the paint. Sticking oil paint in water then dipping it. It would have to be very precise and wouldn't quite look like chocobolo grain all depends how the paint goes in the water.
Another trick is to use a coat of black paint on the body, then sand so you have "lines" ala wood grain. Then sand the lines to where you can just see them absorbed in the wood. Next step would be to get a dark wood stain and do like 3 or so coats then finish it with varnish. The final solution is a simpler one. Go and find some chocobolo veneer. |
