![]() | Hi guys, this is my first post, I have been reading here for a while and you seem like a helpful bunch! So I'm wondering if you guys can help me with deciding pick-ups for my Ibanez RG1570. It's a basswood body with a bolt on 5pc Maple/Walnut neck and a rosewood fingerboard. The pick-ups on it are Ibanez V8, S1 and V7. They're OK I suppose but they could be better. I'd like higher output and easier harmonics from the bridge p/u and a nice smooth tone from the neck p/u... I dunno about the middle! I'm into players such as Gilbert, Satriani, Petrucci, etc... I hope what I've said helps you to help me! Cheers! |

Then for bridge, well, it's either the drop sonic for modern petrucci, steve's special for I think earlier petrucci and for satriani tones try the mo joe. The fred is also a nice bridge pickup, but it isn't particularly high gain, very nice for harmonics though! As for the single coil, for me there really is only one choice, and that's a blue velvet, they sound great ![]() I'm sure a few other people will chime in ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'll have to agree with the Air Norton in the neck position - it's simply where it's at when it comes to warm neck 'buckers - and I really like it paired to the Steve's Special. However, the Steve's Special is a surprisingly "clean"-sounding PU (because of the mid scoop) and thus won't bring out harmonics as easily as other PUs might. For easy harmonics in the bridge position I suggest trying out the Evo2 - much of what made the original Evo good, without the high end insanity... Cheers Eske "Do be do be do" - Frank Sinatra |

![]() ![]() ![]() | If your a Gilbert fan then you'll probably like his first choice which is a mixture of Tone Zone and PAF Pro. I am a huge Gilbert fan too, and my favourite pickup combo ever is a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge, and then a DiMarzio PAF Pro in the neck. They go together really well, and if I had to use just one pickup combination for the rest of my life, that would be it. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm saving the Steve's Special/Air Norton combo for another guitar, but like the post above for my 1570 I got a Tone Zone, Red Velvet (for the middle) and a PAF Pro. ![]() Lefty Musketeer ![]() |

![]() | Thank you very much for your input guys! Much appreciated! I'm thinkin' this: Neck - Air Norton Middle - Blue velvet Bridge - Drop Sonic/ Tone Zone... Not quite sure yet! Think that'll do the trick? Also, will these pick-ups be compatable with the electronics in my guitar? Is it just a matter of swapping out the old pick-ups with the new ones? |

![]() ![]() ![]() | That should be a good combo. I went with Air Norton, stock middle, and the Tone Zone. I love it. ALso a big fan of Paul Gilbert. ![]() Yes, they're direct swaps. |

Yeah I did have a quick look at Bareknuckle, they're pretty damn expensive though! Are they worth it? | |
