String gauge for C standard?

A few months ago when I got my only six, I bough a set of 11's to tune to C-standard (I figured, when I tuned to D, 10s were tight, so a step down in tuning = a step up in gauge). However, they are very loose and floppy.

Would it be best to go for 12s, or skip that and go straight to 13s? This is for straight C tuning, not drop.

I use a .9 for my high D (tuning standard D)... So I dont really see the problem but try 12 first and if you are still not happy, jump another step up.

Pericles is on a distinguished road
Whats the scale length? My acoustic is tuned down to C on a 24.75", it's got Mediums, witch are .13-.56's, very tight and playable, although on electric, i do prefer somewhat loose strings. I'd say, go straight to 13's

Most string makers say for every half a step you tune down you need to go up a gauge. So a full step down equals up two gauges.

But as always, strings are cheap so feel free to experiment.

Standard Ibanez RG 25.5 inch scale. It's this:

It's a cheapo, but I so rarely see white guitars bound with black with a matching headstock AND fixed bridge, that I had to snag it.

It's more like for every full step.

If you like 9s in standard, 12s should be fine

I'm just repeating what I've heard from Ernie Ball and D'Addario. String tension is an odd thing. It pays to experiment.

Imperium is a jewel in the rough
Wells a 10 gauge string at D has 12.9 lbs of tension.

So... an 11 gauge string has a tension of 12.3 lbs at C

So its seems like it would be pretty close? maybe you just need to beef up the bottom strings some more? or i know D'addario makes an 11.5 gauge string that string has a tension of 13.5 lbs so that should make it tighter than the 10's your using for D at the moment.

Hope this helps
