![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | String gauge for C standard? A few months ago when I got my only six, I bough a set of 11's to tune to C-standard (I figured, when I tuned to D, 10s were tight, so a step down in tuning = a step up in gauge). However, they are very loose and floppy. Would it be best to go for 12s, or skip that and go straight to 13s? This is for straight C tuning, not drop. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I use a .9 for my high D (tuning standard D)... So I dont really see the problem but try 12 first and if you are still not happy, jump another step up. "Guys, you gotta stop it with all these threads. ![]() | Whats the scale length? My acoustic is tuned down to C on a 24.75", it's got Mediums, witch are .13-.56's, very tight and playable, although on electric, i do prefer somewhat loose strings. I'd say, go straight to 13's Quote:
For me, I even like tuning to C# standard with .09's! lol. Of cource, any lower and it's just rediculous, but hell.....lol Last edited by Pericles; 02-21-2007 at 03:57 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost | |

So a full step down equals up two gauges. But as always, strings are cheap so feel free to experiment. ![]() The only proof he needed for the existance of God was music. ![]() | Wells a 10 gauge string at D has 12.9 lbs of tension. So... an 11 gauge string has a tension of 12.3 lbs at C So its seems like it would be pretty close? maybe you just need to beef up the bottom strings some more? or i know D'addario makes an 11.5 gauge string that string has a tension of 13.5 lbs so that should make it tighter than the 10's your using for D at the moment. Hope this helps |
