Fretless Guitars

So, I went to guitar center with my friend last week to check out some gear and stuff, and we tried this fretless bass. Needless to say, I was amazed! The sound was so clear and the feel was incredible. I was wondering, does a fretless guitar give the same effect?

yeah, they're pretty cool. the only 6 string i have is fretless.. its quite a unique experience.

It depends which fretless you get, as the sound'll depend largely on the sort of fingerboard (metal or graphite vs. plain wood), the strings, and pickups.

Mine has a wood fretboard (with three coats of expoxy on top), single coils, and 12 gauge flatwound strings, and it has quite a unique sound. By detuning the bass strings I can get a cool fretless bass-type tone.

Mine's a bit cheaper.. its got a rosewood fingerboard, humbuckers, and i've got 11 guage flatwounds, tuned to C standard.. \m/

Mine's a rosewood board as well...it started off as a cheap strat copy (my second ever guitar!).

Mine's currently in open E flat. Has anyone tried slide guitar on a fretless? Soooo much fun, especially for the Brett Garsed/Sonny Landreth technique of mixing slide and fretted notes.
