Look what my Uncle found in the dumpster... (56k....stfu)

...a 1977 Fender Stratocaster!

I was at his place and he took out a guitar case and told me he found it in the dumpster. He works at a recycling plant and I guess he has access to a bunch of dumpsters

. I know for a fact someone didn't purposely throw this out. They must had it stolen or was kicked out of their place and everything was thrown in the garbage.
Once i opened the case, I was greeted by the stench of piss. The guitar was filthy; dirt caked all around the frets. I managed to clean it up a little bit, it's still pretty rough. Anyway, he wants to sell it and split the money.

I've liked the two hardtail American Strats that I have had more than the trem'd ones that I have had.

Well, the pictures really don't show how dirty it is. Anyway, my Uncle wanted the money. I totally would have kept it. I'm telling him to keep an eye out for more guitars

And for a guitar found in the garbage, $1000 ain't that bad!

Really? Given its serial number it's only a '77 or '78, which all things considered isn't that old for a vintage Fender, and it's a CBS. Last I heard late 70s Fenders could still be had for a pretty decent price, but I suppose I could be well out of the loop by now. Are they fetching pretty high prices these days?

I checked ebay, some are going for as high as $3k mint. It depends on the finish too, i guess.

I haven't tracked them closely, but taking a quick look at ebay all the ones listed are well above $1000... would have definitely been worth the time to clean up properly

True, but street price can differ vastly than whats posted on the internet.
Seems those high priced ones also had trems.

damn I would have tried to pick that up. Beautiful guitar. I had a Black 79 as my first real guitar I had to part with it for $1300 in worse condition that that in 2008. I definitely would have rocked the shit out of the pisscaster!

Did you check with the local police before potentially selling stolen goods?

EDIT: Make that "sold, potentially stolen, goods".

It was in such bad condition I doubt it was stolen. The strings were at the very least a few years old. Who ever had it probably didn't play guitar either.
I should have taken pictures of the fretboard beforehand. I have no idea how this substance accumulated around the frets, but it took me an hour to get it all off!
