Looks good, although I think that second strat you did was best. Some of the wear on the body (like around the strap pin) looks a little artificial to me. Everything else looks pretty good, though

Yeah, I agree with Nik. For some reason, the Strats (especially the second) just looked old and beat to shit. In a good way.
This one looks new... but beat to shit. For some reason, it just doesn't seem like it's a 'relic', if you know what I'm saying. I think you do, actually. Still, a nice job. You should take the strings off, and maybe the neck, burn that sum'bitch with a lighter and a cigarette, but especially, kick that body around the backyard for about an hour or two. ![]()

repeat the fret wear on the upper frets. the back of the neck looks a little unnatural, more like its made of charcoal than worn down from use. but i really like what you did around the bridge pickup with the fuzzy stuff.

Although I agree that the Strat looked better, this was nicely done as well.

Sorry bro, but that looks like someone took a dremel to a cheap tele, and not a "relic."
Think about WHY the wear's happening. Why would a Tele wear on the front side of the neck-side strap pin, but not around the pin itself or the side/back from the strap rubbing? And the back of the neck looks like sandpaper and dirt, not finish wear - I've never seen a guitar wear like that. Have you ever actually played an old guitar that's actually accumulated that kind of wear over 20 years?

I'm with Drew.
I'm also wondering about your motivation for doing this. The first thing that comes to mind is that you might be doing this to guitars to make them seem vintage, so you can sell them for more than they're worth to people dumb enough to not know the difference. Of course, that's only my first thought. You might have a totally legitimate reason for what you're doing. But it honestly smells a little fishy. |

Eh, there's something about the vibe of a totally beat up guitar... Anyway, no one could look at that and honestly believe "'51 Broadcaster" so...
Either way dude, at the VERY least get all that steel wool off the pickups. ![]() |
