Let the rage out.

Just ordered this. This isnt a "NGD!" thread, this is a "how does this happen" post haha.

I paid 350 shipped for it, so even if I spend 1000$ to get it fixed (not even close....), Im still coming out on top haha.

Im contacting rich at ibanez rules for parts and pickguard, I have pups and stuff to go in, and worse comes to worse I'll sand everything down and restain/clear it.

Lets review the carnage...

Meh. As long as there's nothing threatening the playability or structural integrity of it, slap some hardware on it and play the shit out of it. It's a JEM.

Well, having a finish like that is completely unacceptable to me haha. I will get everything up and running for sure, I've literally wanted one of these since I was a kid.

The front of the body looks a little shitty, but the rest of it has kind of a cool relic finish to it.

I'm confused though, didn't the JEM7BSBs have the screw-head inlays?

So I guess those weren't actually screws and they got filed down with the fretboard scallop? Lol.

No lol they were plastic inserts, just had a "Screw" shape impregnated in them. That obviously goes away when you scallop :p

In all seriousness I will probably throw another fretboard on there if I dont like the scallop job. Theres no way I can ever sell this thing, so I may as well make it my own.

I see what happened! The owner wanted their Poly-based finish to check like vintage Nitro-based finishes, soo they cut them in...... Maybe?

I'm like you though, that finish would bother me. If it didn't at first, it definitely would down the road.

That's going to be a great one to have fun with. It shouldn't cost a shit load to get basic parts, if not original, then quality remakes or something similar.

Yeah it looks intentional to me, how the hell does that happen otherwise? Looks like they saw a 3-D finish in the MF catalog and decided to have a go at it.

I say slap some hardware on it and see how it plays. At the very least, it'll have "character" I've seen more beat to hell guitars used by pros.

Gibson LPJ, Squire II frankenstrat of doom

That is a solid score @ $350 for a BSB Jem. I would throw an edge on there and some dimarzios and call it a day.

Awesome! Are you going to replicate the BSB finish or go with something else? When I bought mine from 7 Dying Trees he told me what the best (or it might even be the exact, can't quite remember) stain to use. I can't remember what it was though, send him a message if you need to, he's a super nice guy
