I've seen good RG550's go for £255 on ebay, I've seen almost new RG2550's go for £275 (two about 1.5 months ago). for £600 you should be able to get a real peach if you're patient. £400 for an RG1527 seems about right, but the RGA121 that others have suggested might be more up your street and could be had cheaper. It is true, they do rave about them, though I also haven't had chance to try one. Just keep an eye out, maybe watch ebay for a while to get a feel for prices. I have been, unfortunately all the bargains happen to fall before my payday when I've usually already bought something shiny.
Though don't let us tell you what you like, generally Prestige or pre-Prestige 5xx guitars are good to go for, also 7xx, but those don't come up often and tend to be over your budget when they do. Be patient and work out what would fit you best, unless you see something you NEED. In which case buy it. And the fretboard radius = thickness comment... I hope you're trolling. You posted again while I was typing, and apparently not trolling, ok here goes. Fretboard radius IS NOT EQUAL TO neck thickness. It has no relation whatsoever. You could draw a tentative trend for thinner necks having a flatter fretboard, but its not causal. You could put any radius fretboard on any thickness of neck. The Ibanez super wizard HP is 19mm at the 12th fret, that's thin compared to anything else I've seen. |

My ibanez has the thickest neck of any prestige RG... its MUCH less than an inch thick. The Indo necks are 1mm thicker, still less than an inch. The super wizard HP is anorexic.

Ive played ibbys across the board (from gios to prestigue) and absolutely none of them had a thin neck to me. they are generally thick and chunky. And extremely uncomfortable. Have any of you even touched a bcr?

Yeah, I am fond of the older RG550s ('92), the S540s are nice as well. Might be able to grab up a 20th anniversary 550 as well. I don't know what they are going for used.

Yes. I have. They were shit. High end and low. Note that the higher end one was only a little bit less shittier than the lower end model. The ibby gios are nothing to be won over by but seriously? Ibanez has some of the best lower end models in the production market.

Where are all these thick necked OFR equipped Ibanez guitars you speak of?
![]() Also radius =/= neck thickness. It's simply a measure of the curvature of the fretboard, nut and bridge. Guitars with a 9", 12", 17", and 20" radii can have the exact same neck thickness. You gotta be trolling at this point. At least I genuinely hope so. Back on topic: Any used MIJ Ibanez is good shape will do fine. Something in the 5xx or higher range will do just fine, as far as pre-Prestige. As for newer Prestige models, anything will do if you dig the specs. Hunt for some locally and post pics and prices here and I'll be more than glad to help you out from there. Need help with setting up a trem? Need info on your Ibby? Live in Milwaukee? My opinion is, best Ibanez moderately priced hardtail ever is the RGA121.
Best moderately priced tremolo Ibanez is probably the RG550 (although Ibanez has sold so many tremolo guitars, it is harder to say which forsure, the RG550 is a safe bet though). Best moderately priced 7 string hardtail is the RG7621. Best moderately priced 7 string tremolo is the RG7620. The RG3120 was a really killer guitar also. These are all my opinions, hate if you like, I no care! Revelation 20:12 |

The RG550s are awesome. Though, look into the RG520 or RG570, exact same awesome neck, hardware, and quality, just different routes and pickup configurations. The thing is, the RG520s and RG570s are typically more boring in appearance so they go for much cheaper. Bought my last RG520 about a year and a half ago for $280, with a case.

Wow, thanks for the reply guys :-) knew it was a good idea to join this forum! I'll have a look on the bay for a while, need a new axe by mid-late April preferably. So hopefully spot something about then. If I can find a rga121 for a good price then I may just go for that. Just as I write this I see a 1527 for £250 and a signature mbm1 for £215 :-)

There is a reasonably priced (sub £300) RG550 for sale on musicradar as well (no affiliation with the seller).

If I had £600 to spend on a guitar, I'd probably buy this:
Ibanez Jem 555 ~ Secondhand Or, this: Ibanez S570B WH |

I have both the RGA121 and RG1527, and in my view they are both equally good at what they do. You have to decide what you really want out of a new guitar, and if you need it to be a solid non-trem six string sex machine then you have to choose the 121. If you know that you're going to want to go into seven string territory at some point and you are pretty sure that it's not just something you've caught like a passing bug, then the 1527 would be my recommendation, because they can get a lot more expensive on our side of the Atlantic and if you end up searching for a kickass seven a few months or years down the line then you might be pulling out your hair over deciding to let it go.

Your opinion is that you hate them, and that's fair. I don't think anyone takes offense to that, but when you say that their necks are thicker than your BCR's then it just starts to get weird. |

Anyway back on topic, if you want a 7 then the 7620 neck is one of the thinnest and most comfortable I've ever played so I'd recommend that personally. |

![]() So Ibanezes are for djent only? The name Steve Vai ring a bell? Or, uh, Pat Metheny? ![]() Quote:
![]() Saying that Ibanez's necks are thick is not an opinion like you claim it is, it's a definitive statement. And it's one that's wrong. ![]() Seriously though, you clearly haven't ever played an Ibanez if you think the necks are too thick. Unless you mean wide, in which case you may be onto something. They're wider than a Fender neck, yeah, but they're hardly unmanageable. Depth-wise, Ibanez have some of the slimmest necks out there. It's one of the main reasons they're famous, did you not know that? Hate to break it to you, but B.C. Rich guitars have fatter necks than Ibanezes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Check out my YouTubings by making clicks upon this most generously provided link: http://www.youtube.com/user/ConnorFGuitar?feature=mhee You can thank me later. Thanks guys much appreciated! I've bid on a 1527 and an mbm1 (glorified 121) both ranging between £200-£250 so hopefully I win one, or both
![]() On a side note: What pickups would you's recommend for a 1527? the mbm1 already comes stock with EMG 60/81 but I'll likely swap them for my blackouts. |

Much like everyone said here, the older Ibbys like the RG5X0's. If you get a neon purple RG550, then I will hunt you down and steal that guitar from you.

Ive also stated before that vintage ibanezes are perfect. ibanez made some awesome guitars. But it seems like they got slack on building. im hoping some one will agree with this: Vintage ibanezes are beast. But the prob is, you cant find them. i played one, from the 70s i think (acoustic) that was the best id ever heard.
