Edge vs Edge Lopro?

Hey.. I never had extensive playing time with Lo-pros (6s) so I am just wondering... Is there a big difference in the original Edge to the Lo-pro? Other than the shape.. I mean like stability comparison, staying in tune, intonation issues, etc..

Might attempt building a guitar finally... lol but I have an Original Edge to use on it, but might try going with the Lo-pro if I can find one to get like an even trade on it or something.. Not sure. Anyone have an opinion?

They're pretty similar - most people choose one over the other for the feel, as one's low profile and the other's not.

Alledgedly, an Edge has slightly more mass dispersed slightly farther from the pivot point, so it flutters a touch better but I've never really confirmed that.

I've tried them both (Back when i owned 3 UVs, one had a Edge 7, one had a Lo Pro 7 and the newest one had the Edge Pro 7). My favorite has been the lo pro, but i like the edge for the fact its compatible with regular OFR parts for the most part. Aside from that fact, i prefer the feel of the LoPro a bit more. essentially the only difference is the types of saddles and the 'whale tale OFR' thing that the edge has going on.

Yea.. I havent played a lo-pro forever, but I think I like the feel much better, so most likely gonna try and look for one.

Another kinda question... Ever attempt using a trem guitar with no locking nut, only locking tuners? I did a search on google and so far every website about people asking about it, say that locking tuners alone cant handle a floyd, you basically need a locking nut.. Just wondering, cause probably easier/cheaper to get a neck with no locking nut slot.

well, the Ernie Ball Music Mans and the Carvins seem to get along fine without them, but i've never personally used a trem that much on those guitars.

i'd imagine, but i cant say either way, someone else would have to clear up that confusion for you ;D

I'd IMAGINE without the locking nut if you're beating the fuck out of your whammy bar, there's a chance one of the strings could come out of the nut and cause a snag if you were playing live, but they might have some kind of precaution against that...

The JP7 isn't a true locking trem - if you play an Axis with a Floyd, it has a locking nut. Ditto with the Wilkinson trem, Carvins with Floyds come with locking nuts.

There is an option on the Carvins to have locking tuners but no locking nut. In my experience though if you're going for extreme trem abuse you need a locking nut. If you're only planning the odd vintage style warble you can get away without it.

Lo Pro Edge, no doubt.

That edge it's more comfortable, because have a low profile, IMO, so maybe some people like the Edge.
