Exclamation Questions regarding carvins

I'm thinking of getting a Carvin DC127... I'm a big fan of Ibanez jems/j customs and jackson USA soloists as far as six string stuff is concerned... I was wondering what the neck profile on the carvins were like?

Also, The standard radius is 12", too low for me, I'm really comfy with my Ibanez 16" radii, Any ideas as to which option might suit my needs more (out of either 14" or 20").

And finally, This is a budget guitar I can't go all out on this one, and Im comtemplating on the use of the 5 piece maple/walnut neck, will it make that much of a difference whether I add that option or not? (saves me 90$ if I don't, cosmetically It won't matter, since this guitar is gonna be a solid color).

thx

Jackson's compound radius is from 14 to 16, so if you play a Jackson it'll be roughly like the 14." 20" radius is really high, I don't really know what has something that flat.

I'd go for the 14."

Go for the 14" radius and the jumbo 6100 frets. I doubt that the walnut stripes would make that much of a sound difference, though they might lend some stability to the neck.

I've been touching on this a lot lately, but here goes... the Carvin neck profile is similar to the RG1527 but a tad thicker. Its very close to the Jackson ones, though the Jackson ones are a bit more C shaped. It's thicker than Ibanez, much thinner than Schecter or ESP. Very comfortable, any Ibanez fan should feel right at home.

ok, thx a lot zimbloth!! I'm gonna guess that the same comparison can be made for 6 string guitars (since that's what I'm going for)...

The Carvin 6-string necks have gotten substantially thicker in the last several years. If you want a Carvin with a profile similar to a Jackson, get a used one that made between '88 and '95. The '88-'92 Carvins, in particular, had necks that were a lot like the Jackson profile. I had an '89 DC145 that had an awesome neck, though the tone wasn't much to write home about.

In recent years, though, Carvin has gone after the old fogey demographic that wants big fat guitar necks. The DC guitars aren't as bad as the California Customs that way, but even the DCs have gone away from the shredder neck, which is a shame because that's one of the things that Carvin did really well.

kindred_spirits is a jewel in the rough
Hmm... I disagree. The DC's and CT necks are far from fat. The current Carvin profile is just slightly rounder than the Jackson soloist neck. Not fat at all, definitely on the thin side. If you are really used to Wizards, it might take some time to adjust, but they are no means fat.
