Kevan...help with tremol-no

i've had my tremol-no installed for quite some time but have never managed to get it to fit well. if i don't have the bridge locked, i can always hear/feel the parts grinding against each other. i've tried using the spacers and adjusting the position of the clamp on my trem block, but nothing i do seems to make a difference. i've been so frustrated with it that i no longer use it. is there anything more i can do, short of selling it on ebay?

Derek- It sounds like you never got the Tremol-No setup properly. There's a little bit of tweaking that needs to be done so that you don't 'feel' the unit when you use your trem. Make TINY, TINY adjustments to the claw screws until the unit is aligned properly, totally silent, and you don't 'feel' it. It should only take a few minutes.
Then lock the set screws on the claw down and you don't have to touch it again.

Chances are, if you're using a Floyd-type trem, you won't need the spacers. Few actually will.

Also, make sure the rest of your trem is cleaned and lubricated properly.

I'm happy to help you get it working. Toss me as many details as you can and we'll get you hooked up.

"Thank YOU, Jim Day!"

Ok, and I'll try taking a few pictures of my install job and posting them up here sometime in the near future, I'm too tired to take pictures or make adjustments right now. Also, the shaft of my Tremol-No moves a bit from side to side from the claw shaft. Is it supposed to do that or should it not make a big difference?

Thanks

Skinhead- Yes. Contact AllParts and they'll direct you to the nearest distributor. www.allparts.com
You can also visit my buddy Brian over at Universal Jems (www.universaljems.com). Not only is he 7-string friendly, but he's also an authorized AllParts dealer and loves to ship internationally.

Derek-
The Shaft can move a little left-to-right where it's attached to the Claw. That's normal tolerance. There should be a little lubrication at that joint to keep it smooth and quiet. The factory didn't do such a hot job on lubing the first batch.

I'd be happy to help you out with the tweaking. You can post here or over on the forum I have set up on Tremol-No.com. Either way works.

I'm sure we can get you set up and rocking in no time.

ok i have a picture of my trem cavity with the tremol-no installed. let me know if there's something wrong with it.

o yea and i think the top spring is messed up, the part that attaches to the trem block is misaligned, so i'm not sure if that might have an effect on the noise that the tremol-no is making.

it looks like the screw on the bottom of the pic isnt in as far as the other....which would cause binding issues

You've got your head down
You've got your eyes closed
You look so pitiful now

Your body encrusted with ash
Breath heavy with toxins
Hair singed and matted
Clothes frayed and burnt

You are left with nothing

Derek- Are the set screws locked on the T-No claw? It's important that they are once you're done with alignment.

Going back a few steps:
- Do some tiny TINY TINY TINY tweaking of that High E side claw screw. Little tiny turns (1/64th of a turn if you can).
-Then check the trem for binding.
-Turn a bit more in the same direction.
-Then check the trem.
-Repeat until you don't have any binding in there.

Tip: Remove the thumbscrews from the Receiver when you're doing alignment. That way you're sure they're not causing any binding.

It's not required that you have (3) matching springs.
But it sure is nice.
