Tuning to C

is there anything i need to do to my guitar other than use thicker strings to tune to standard C?

just set your intonation and make sure the neck is straight, and you're good to go.

If you have a floyd-rose, either make sure the 'strings-to-springs' balance is set as you like it, or block it.

yeah sorry for the lack of information, its an RG1570 with an EDGE PRO, would 11s cover it?
also, what would be a good way to block the trem, other than the tremol-no?
something quick, i just need to do it before i record today

11's should be fine.

my old rule of thumb was +1 guage for every half step you tune down.

Try a 9-46 gauge set, leave off the high E and put a 56 on the bottom.

regular 11s(11-52 with wound g is what i play in standard) are way too loose in C imo. I like tight sound and tight feel so is use 13-60 for C, but i'm known for using thick strings.

Floyds are notoriously hard to detune, be carefull that eberything is set level.

Just to clarify, those are the gauges I use for C tuning on a Yamaha Drop 6 guitar with an extended scale. I don't know how it would feel on a normal guitar. On the Drop 6 it feels similar to a 9-46 set at concert pitch.

Ernie Ball's "not even slinky" 12-56 set works well, but beware the plain 26, that string is a bitch.
